laptop cannot detect wireless networks
a few days ago my laptop had no internet access even though it was connected to my home wireless network. I tried messing around with it and disabled the connection. suddenly, all the wireless networks in the list disappeared, even after enabling again.
Other than disabling the connection in network and sharing center I did not do anything else. the physical switch of the wireless adaptor is on.
under "manage wireless networks" I tried adding connections but it still does not show in the system tray.
I googled and found someone saying to start a service called WLAN autoconfig, but it is already started.
turning the modem and router on/off does not help either.
I know the router is not the problem because other devices at home can still access wireless. also usually I can see my neighbours' wireless but now the network list is completely empty.
I'm using an Asus laptop with windows 7, my wireless adaptor is called Atheros AR9285 wireless network adaptor. i've attached some screenshots.

Ok, have you performed virus scan just to rule that out? And you did re-enable the wireless network card?
Did you try re-entering the wireless network settings, i.e. your SSID, passkey, etc?

Is this a work laptop? If it is you should have your employers IT look at it. I ask because you have a lot of VPN tunnel network connections.

yes i did virus scan. I also tried reentering SSID and passkey, in my first post there is a screenshot with the SSID showing under "manage wireless networks" which I entered but it does not show in the tray. this is not a work comptuer but home computer. I'm not sure why there are so many tunnels, but I used a VPN software a few months ago to play games at school, I have uninstalled that software months ago and have no used any tunneling ot VPN since.

After some research it maybe related to IPv6. It looks like you're not using that so it's safe to disable it. Control Panel>Change Adapter Settings>Properties(of Local area connection). Then untick IPv6.
Also can you post a screen shot of your device manager(Control Panel>Device Manager). Before you do though go to the view in the menu and select show hidden devices and expand the network adapters like this

no there is still no wireless networks in the tray, I find that when I turn my wireless switch on and off only the bluetooth is turned on and off, the WLAN remains off, does this mean the wireless adaptor is dead? device manager says it is working though. I don't understand why no networks are showing previously it was showing a lot of neighbour's networks in addition to my own.
OS windows 7 home premium 64 bit
Can you post a new screen shot of the Ipconfig /all?
Also can you run the troubleshooter of the WLAN? So when you right click on the Wireless network Connection it says "Enabled"?
And you double checked the passkey is correct? I know I've done that before where I left one letter out of my passkey and I couldn't get connected.
And it's still showing the same red x's like in your original post?
