Hello everyone,

My laptop display is always black, but I can see the backlight is on.

My laptop is connected to an external monitor and when I click on Screen Resolution, I see that my monitor's name and my laptop monitor's name, but it's name is now different.

My laptop Display was always called "Vaio". It had max resolution of 1600 x 900.

Now, my Display is called "Digital Flat Panel (1024x768 60hz)" that is totally different than my display...any help?

Update the Display adapter driver in Device Manager.

First run all Important and Optional Updates to completion to see if its offered, or another performance update is needed.

Rightclick on the monitor display to see how it is configured, try another. What happens when you choose only the laptop display, or unplug the monitor?

If these fail can you System Restore to before the problem began?

If not then we´ll try to think of other solutions before looking at the screen wiring harness connection.

When I unplug my monitor or only choose laptop display, my screen is also black, but I can see the backlight.

Also, I always connected my laptop to my monitor via HDMI. But, I switched to AVI and this started happening.

From my other problem I did use my System Image to restore and that solved my other problem. But this problem occured.

There were other steps to try.

What happens if you connect using HDMI now?

Same situation, Drive Manager lists as Display Flat Panel (1024x768) and thus, it won't't let me use my laptop screen.

Everytime I turn my laptop on, I get a very brief backlight flash and then I see the display on my monitor. Before, I can see the Vaio splash page and then the Windows screen...

Should I open the screen area and check if my wire may have come lose?

That's the next step after you assure it isn't Display driver or bad setting. Did you look at settings in BIOS that might pertain?

Often there will be a video found by Googling your model for how to replace screen, disassemble, etc. You only want to disassemble enough to check the wiring harness for display.

What settings should I look for though the BIOS? I did reset the BIOS to factory settings when trying to solve my other problem.

Ok I will check the LVDS wire connected to my screen. And I will test for another screen. (I have 2)

Did the PC undergo some sort of shock or fall recently?
What changed since the last time you were able to use the display?
Is it getting very hot?
Is it in a humid environment?

Did the PC undergo some sort of shock or fall recently? Nope, no fall. But electricity stopped for a few seconds, but I was on battery.
What changed since the last time you were able to use the display? My laptop was plugged to my external monitor via HDMI. And then when I plugged my laptop via AVI, that's when I noticed I can't switch back to my laptop screen. I never had the setting "Make this main display" before though, but that option is now enabled to be the external monitor, as I can't switch back.
Is it getting very hot? nope
Is it in a humid environment?
nope

It's weird how the screen name will change under Device Manager. It had always been called Vaio, now Display Flat Panel (1024x768). My real display is 1600x900...

Are you able to get to the Advanced Boot Options menu, by pressing F8 multiple times
when booting the laptop?
If so select Enable low-resolution video (680x480) then try to swith back to the laptop display
using the Windows-Key+P and selecting Computer Only.

Ok, I will try that.

Some other info I thought of, my color and everything seems to be different than before. I don't know whether it's the AVI cable but colors arn't as vibrant now on my external monitor.

Do you mean since the problem started, the colours ar less vibrant or when you started in low resolution mode?
By the way, by AVI cable you mean VGA?

So sorry, I always meant VGA cable.

No worries.
So did you try it in VGA (low resolution) mode?

Post back a screenshot of the Laptop monitor in Device manager, all tabs.

Use the Snipping tool in Start Menu. Attach with paper clip in reply box.
