Laptop freezing after some minutes of using or idle

Hello, im using and old lap with windows 7. Everything was fine until suddenly froze and took me about 20 mins to turn it off. Next day it was really slow on start up while it was fine on safe mode. Ran diagnostic mode and it was super fast with no problem,then changed to normal mode with antivirus and most programms disabled. I assume antivirus was the one that made it extremely slow but now it hangs/freezes after some minutes of use(30-35) or when idle ( u know typical ctrl ald delete doesnt work i only push power button to reset). I also cannot turn firewall on cause i get error 1068. Any idea what causes those freezes and how to fix?Thanks in advance!

Lets do the basic.

Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and ask if you want to schedule to next start = yes
Restart
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

Back to windows, Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
sfc /scannow
If it finds any corrupted file, even if fixed, restart the computer and run again.

That sounds a little bit like cpu overheating. Simple to fix by just blowing the dirt out of the cpu cooling system.

However, I was given a beautiful HP laptop that would only run a few minutes after boot up and then quit.
I suspected dirt in the cpu cooling fan. Well, it was worse than that. The cpu fan was frozen solid.
I didn't have the time or money to have that laptop professionally repaired with a new cooling fan.
So I did the next best thing. I cut out the grill over the cooling fan, and glued on a 12v, 3" fan.
That new fan blows a lot of room air up into the cpu and now it runs like a champ.

I set it up on a pair of printer stands to keep the fan up off of the desk, and I power the 12v fan with a Modular 12v
power supply. The OS on that laptop had been tortured to the point of total collapse. I tried for over an hour to clean up the OS, and I finally had to just give up, which I hate to do, and install Windows 8.1/Pro/64.

That HP Laptop has a HUGE screen, with great color and resolution, and it runs great with the new SSD I installed in it.
For ease of operation, I use a USB external Keyboard and Mouse. What started out as a portable (laptop) has now become a great little Desktop PC. I love taking dumpster food, and making something great out of it.
