First off, I'm helping my brother to post from another computer on another network because this forum blocks both of his accounts "whitebeard" and "marineford" within 1 minute of account activation for "spamming" and "already banned". So if any of the adminstrators sees this, please unban him.

Hi, I'm using Acer Aspire 4741G. I force shutdown my laptop when it was semi-lagging and freezing after I opened my internet browsers. After that, it always boot to the system recovery options window.

I used the Startup Repair option, and the diagnosis shows a bunch of error code = 0x0, and the root cause found was:

No OS files found on disk.
Repair action: partition table repair
Result: Failed. Error code = 0x490

And unfortunately I have not created a restore point before in order for System Restore to work.

I looked up your forum for some solutions and found this:

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/139576-startup-repair-infinite-loop-recovery.html
Upon using the command prompt I found that the drive with all my documents is now D instead of C, but when I enter the command "cd/windows/system32/config" I get "the request could not be performed because of an I\O device error"

How do I know if my hard drive is still readable?
Is it possible to copy out the documents I need to a USB thumbdrive or DVD?
Is it possible to fix this without reformatting?
I have a blank rewritable DVD, but not an external HDD
I do not have a Windows 7 installation or recovery disk, the laptop is pre-installed with one.

My BIOS boot priority order has the following options:

IDE 0: WDC WD5000BEVT-22A0RT0-(S1
IDE CD/DVD: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ890AS-(S
Network Boot: MBA v12.2.2 Slot 0300
USB HDD:
USB FDD:
USB KEY
USB CD/DVD:

I think the IDE CD/DVD is the CD drive, so I switched it to the first position, burned the last item from this site:

Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online using another computer to try and boot from it, but it doesn't work. I don't see the message prompting the boot from CD, and it brings me to the System Recovery Options window again.

I can't get the Safe Mode menu to appear despite pressing/tapping/holding f8.

Hiyya and welcome Glyticia Mate have you tried tapping F8 and a safe mode boot? If you have and it doesn't boot and you have not got a lot on this machine then how about a factory default re install?

If you have never done this before - you power off leave for a few seconds and then power back on and keep tapping the F10 key or Alt+ F10 if one doesn't work try thet other.

This will wipe all data of the drive and reinstall from the factory partition and effectively be a reinstall of the OS.

Oh and mate some system specs would be really handy too. Use Speccy when you can get it on and this is a very handy tool to use in future.

Speccy - System Information - Free Download

Mate as for your brother I don't know what it was he posted but it must have been well out of order to be banned asap. I don't know how he can be reinstated - shame cos it is a fantastic forum.
