Solved laptop internet connection dilema

I have bought a laptop i have sky broadband and a sky router.i have set the laptop to the number on the back of the router.and everything works great.
heres my question when i take it outside i/e in the car the internet dos'nt work.
i thought the object of a laptop was to take it anywhere.what am i doing wrong.
can anybody help.

If you are connecting wirelessly to the internet your sky router will only reach about 300 feet if it is a G router.

Your laptop is portable and will go anywhere. But dont expect your internet provider to follow you around like a puppy.

If you also have a cell-phone and it allows tethering you can do this: http://www.ehow.com/how_4480859_tether-cell-phone-internet-laptop.htmle

That will allow you to use your laptop anywhere you go as long as you have phone signal. All the cell phone companies are different, so check with your carrier and see if they offer it.

Make sure you know what the data plan is so you know what you are allowed to do with tethering and any costs associated with it.

As I assume you are in the UK - the phone providers provide mobile internet dongles on a pay as you go basis. for example t-Mobile offer £2/day - £7/week - £15 month.

This may be useful if you need occasional net access when not at home or where free wireless hot-spots are not available

:shock: What Joel said made a very good point. That you don't understand fully how your router and internet connection works or you're expecting way too much from the routers capabilities.
