Hi, I just loaded Windows 7 on my ASUS Laptop. When I was using Vista I could turn off the Mouse-Pad, which is annoying and causes a lot of texting problems.
Can someone please tell me how to turn off the mouse-pad in Windows 7?
I'm desperate and fairly PC literate, but this has me stumped.

Thanks if you can help
Rob

If you can't do so by going to Mouse settings in the Control Panel, I suggest going to the Asus support website and download and install the trackpad drivers for your laptop with Windows 7 which will allow you access to such functionality.

Look in services. Type services.msc in the start search box to bring up the icon, click it to get the services window. It might be listed as 'touch pad'.

Mouse Pad disable

I have a similar issue. Just installed Windows 7 Ultimate x32 from Vista on a Dell XPS. In Vista, anytime I plugged my Logitech wireless into the USB port, the laptop mouse pad would disable. After the install, and all updates, the mouse pad is active as well as the wireless. It really causes problems when typing anything as it is so easy to hit.

I've tried to go into the mouse control panel to try and disable it, but it just hangs when I try to open it. Everything else seems to work fine, just cannot get into any Mouse settings.
Thanks

On top of software solutions, you could always check your laptops BIOS. I know on my two Thinkpads, I can turn the touch pad off, thus Windows can't see it and won't even bother installing (won't be detectable).

I wish more manufacturer's kept the keyboard mouse "nipple" so much more accurate (imo anyway).

Also, most notebooks have from Fn+<key> that turns off the touch pad as well. What model ASUS notebook do you have?

Touchpad disable solution

I worked with our IT specialist and found part of the problem. There is a conflict between the wireless mouse and touchpad drivers. If you go into system configuration, then services, you'll find one running called Alps Pointing Device. Disable it. Go directly into Control Panel Mouse and you'll see that it now is working. You can make whatever changes you want. However, I think whenever you reboot they all reinstall but it's an easy fix for that session.

OMG, I HATE those things. Every time one of the staff used to bring one of those IBMs in, I would cringe. I guess there are people who like them, but I'm not a fan of that little red piece of hell... (LOL)

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
