Laptop problem

i have acer extensa 6600 with 1.6 ghz processor and 512 mb ram with a battery problem it cannot run without battery plugged in but from many days it it is not booting up when i connect charger the charging light appears and it shows fully charged (green light) when i push power button nothing happens and the charging light disappear .Then i have to put out batter and insert it again but the same problem.one day it starts but not displaying any thing and after 5 min automatically shutdown

Sounds like there is an issue with the battery or a short in the battery connections / charging unit.

what is the result when you use without battery ie) use only with AC adapter?
