Hey guys,
Couple of days again my laptop started randomly crashing. My cursor would disappear and the screen would stay on, and when I press the power button once it turns off automatically? That isn't normal, because you have to hold it other times, right?

Anyone got any ideas?
It occasionally happens when I try to install stuff.

Hard to say, it could be some hardware issue, or maybe software.

1. Replace your current antivirus with Microsoft Security Essentials
2. Update drivers
3. Make sure your hardware is not overclocked
4. Sometimes outdated peripheral devices can cause such behavior as you report- unplug them.

To get further assistance, provide a little more information about your system:

- C:\Windows\Minidump --> .dmp files, attach them.
- if no crash dumps, then attach DriverView: Loaded Windows Drivers List
- cpuz memory and cpu tabs
- passmark RAMMon html.zip

* Have you checked in Event Viewer ?
Event Viewer - Windows Logs - System & Application.
Check for any red error messages to do with this problem.
When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

* Make sure that you are not over heating.

* Make sure PSU is working properly

* If overclocking, restore to original

*Any BSOD DMP files produced?
If so we need them to enable us to assist you with your computer's symptoms.

Hi and welcome

In the event log I noticed several things that need investigating.

1-several event log entries of controller errors. I would run a chkdsk

A- CHKDSK /R /F:

Run CHKDSK /R /F from an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt.

Do this for each hard drive on your system.

When it tells you it can't do it right now - and asks you if you'd like to do it at the next reboot - answer Y (for Yes) and press Enter.

Then reboot and let the test run.

It may take a while for it to run, but keep an occasional eye on it to see if it generates any errors.

See "CHKDSK LogFile" below in order to check the results of the test.

B- Elevated Command Prompt:

Go to Start and type in "cmd.exe" (without the quotes)

At the top of the Search Box, right click on Cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"

C-CHKDSK LogFile:

Go to Start and type in "eventvwr.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Expand the Windows logs heading, then select the Application log file entry.

Double click on the Source column header.

Scroll down the list until you find the Chkdsk entry (wininit for Win7) (winlogon for XP).

Copy/paste the results into your next post.

2- Since there are many IPv6 stack errors reported I would have you run a

ipconfig / all and upload the output to us.

3- Please run a system file check to verify and repair your OS
Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.

To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

Read here for more information http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html

Let us know the results from the report at the end.
