Hi
I recently broke the LCD screen on my acer aspire 5332. I have replaced it with a LED screen and a converter cable bought off eBay. The screen works fine for the first few seconds of booting but goes black after the windows initialising display. The usual startup sounds still happen and the computer appears to run normally, apart from the fact that the screen is black! (No backlight or graphics). It works fine when loaded in safe mode, and I have tried adjusting the display settings through safe mode but it doesn't seem to help when I reboot in normal mode. I assume it is a problem with a driver but I have no idea which driver to reinstall. I would really appreciate any help! Cheers :)

Hello again Alexf.

All laptop display screens are LCD. The difference is in the backlight. Older models use CCFL (fluorescent), newer models use LED backlights.

When you replaced the display, was it an exact replacement (same type and model number)?
Also not sure what a "converter cable" is. Can you post a pic or link?

Hi tveblen
Yep, sorry about the backlighting terminology, i meant to say CCID not LCD!
The screen wasn't a direct replacement, but it is supposed to be compatible with the model, albeit with this converter cable Universal 15.6" LED TO LCD Screen Converter Cable 40pin LED to 30pin CCFL | eBay

To address what you mentioned in the other thread, The screen stays on permanently on the BIOS page and when i boot in safe mode, but when i boot in normal mode, it goes black after the windows loading screen. Having looked at it closely, you can just about make out the normal home screen, in other words it appears that it is just the backlight which is being turned off. Hope this helps!

Was the old display for a CCFL backlight and now you have replaced it with a display for LED backlight, or the other way around?

My first though is that this has something to do with the conversion. Perhaps the video driver can't deal with it.
Your symptoms clearly indicate that the video driver in the normal Windows environment is a part of the problem. But whether it is the driver or the conversion cable is a big question.

You might try playing with your Power Options Settings. In Safe Mode, go to Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Power Options > for the power plan you are using - click "Change Plan Settings" > and under "Turn Off The Display" choose "Never".

See if that changes anything.
