Laptop screen upgrade

would i be able to upgrade my laptop screen? preferably a multi-touch or at least a 1080p screen?

Gtasmy, as advised in your thread discussing a processor upgrade for your laptop, the upgrade of pretty much any component, excluding a hard drive and RAM, is pretty much economically not viable.

A screen would fall into the same category. You could, however purchase a stand alone monitor of your choosing (dependent on your laptops graphics card) and connect that to your laptop.

The above option would probably work out cheaper than replacing your current laptop screen.

It most certainly would be not only cheaper but also more practical solution.

just like i told you with the ram the same applies here. laptops aren't really made to be upgradable like a desktop. your more likely to ruin it and it's not at all cost effective. a normal laptop screen runs about $200 bucks, now if you want multi-touch features your looking at i'd imagine around $500. it's just not worth doing. it would also void any warranty you have and it's not an easy task. however if you insist on going ahead with it check out the various modder communities, they are better suited to help you with this kind of stuff than we are here.

Some manufacturers offer different choices of LCD displays to be installed at the factory when you order a laptop. It is theoretically possible to replace the built-in display on some laptops with one that has higher resolution, however replacing the LCD is NOT a task for an amateur and I would not recommend trying it.

If you really want to try to replace a laptop screen, get the service manual from the manufacturer. Otherwise you won't even get close and will probably break something in the process

The article is about replacing a laptop screen as a repair, not about switching to a touchscreen display in a laptop that never had one.

That's a good general purpose article, but it's still a good idea to get the actual manufacturers' service manual for the specific model you're going to be working on. Unfortunately for the OP, HP doesn't offer an LCD with a higher resolution than the one he already has for an HP DV7.
