Oh whew! I read a few posts out there by people saying that Fn + F7 wasn't working for them even though it's supposed to.

Thank you for the update, cera!

Obviously, it worked in this case. However, there are some machines that use a different FN/F? combination to disable the *&^%$##@! touch pad (my Lenovo G570 uses (FN/F6). Some machines even have a switch to shut the blasted thing off in addition to the keyboard method (my three netbooks did). Also, it sometimes is possible to disable the idiot touchpad in the driver (I can't with my Lenovo...mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble) and some drivers will even allow setting the stupid touchpad to turn off whenever there is a mouse present.

Btw, did I ever mention I'm not especially fond of touchpads?

No, I'm saying that I found posts from people who have the Aspire 5100 and they pressed Fn + F7 as per recommended by others, but it didn't work for them. This wasn't due to some other problem: it was just malfunctioning. I was beginning to get the impression that this is a problem with the 5100.

I thought "2 threads" was amusing. :) Hey, a thread is kind of like a tiny cable of fibers, right? I dunno.
