The laptop I have is a HP G60. It has a HDMI output on it to connect to the HD tv. The problem I have is that I cannot play my 1080P or 720p movies. When they are played it studders. It acts like it just cannot do it. When I purchased it I was told it would play them with no problem.

System specs are as follows:

Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard

Model HP G60 Notebook PC

Total amount of system memory 4.00 GB RAM

System type 64-bit operating system

Number of processor cores 1

Total size of hard disk(s) 320 GB

Graphics
Display adapter type Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family

Total available graphics memory 1695 MB

Dedicated graphics memory 64 MB

Dedicated system memory 0 MB

Shared system memory 1631 MB

Display adapter driver version 8.15.10.2302

Primary monitor resolution 1366x768

DirectX version DirectX 10

Any info of help would be greatly appreciated. It is very frustrating, and my wife definitely will not let me build another htpc for my bedroom right now. So it would be nice to get my laptop to work.

It is not that the laptop wont play them. It is that it plays jerky with a lot of studdering. Itdoes not matter what format it is wether it is .mkv, mp4, or any other format. Playback just sucks.

I have tried VLC, WMP, XBMC and even DVDFAB. All of them act the same way. VLC plays the best but still has the same issue. Studders enough that the movies are unwatchable.

A quick search and it appears that HP G60 has many versions such as 120US, 230US, 440US etc.,

It may perhaps be worthwhile if you mention your HP version. If someone else is having the same version, they may then chip-in and help you.

You mention 1 core. What is your CPU usage when playing 1080p?
Usually 2 or 4 cores is ideal.

The model is a HP G60-513NR. CPU usage is basically steady around 100%. I understand about the cpu possibly not being able to handle it. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered the same issue. It makes no sense to outfit a PC with an HDMI output, and a 720p screen when it will not do HD video??? I called store it was purchased from and their only response was " It is past 30 days sir. We can't help you" Typical attitude. They have their money. Why should they care that they sold me the PC on lies! I guess a bunch of it was my fault for being an uninformed consumer. I knew about computers, but not about what it would take to play HD video on them.

If anyone has any ideas on how I could make this work, please let me know.

All HD videos act this way. Does not matter if it is just on laptop screen, a pc monitor or on a HD TV. All have the same effect.

Sagarzz, what do you mean by " But still the processor cant touch 100 load on just a movie playback.."??

Thanks for indicating the correct version.

I have come across atleast one user review here which states " that the crummy laptop won't play movies in full screen without stuttering or complaining by overheating." The lappie however has got an overall rating of 4.26/5.

Basically the issue is whether an Intel Celeron Processor 900 (2.2GHz, 1MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB) with Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M can handle HD content satisfactorily. ( I have always been an AMD fan and know nothing about Intel :))

May be those familiar with the above Intel combi can throw some light on it.

Since it is a new HP unit, you may vent your ire over the issue to HP technical support and check what they have to say.

The best I can find is you might have to turn down the video quality settings.....Yeah....I know what your gonna say....maybe a long, long, long, cable:cry:

The only reviews I can find on the Intel graphic's chip set are for gaming and its bad.....very bad....and they used a dual core CPU.

I can't speak with first hand knowledge, but on some forums the Intel chip is compared to Nivida's 5200....seven generations back....

Found thishttp://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Graphics-Media-Accelerator-GMA-4500M.20379.0.html

They sold you a office system.....

From the link that Ivan the SoSo has provided, I also understand that there is another version 4500 HD which is HD capable. But the technical specifications of HP G60-513NR in the HP website itself states only 4500. In the event that the actual chip on your lappy is only 4500 and not 4500 HD, you may be rest assured that your lappie is not HD capable.

Well, as Ivan stated it may be a good office system. As I had already indicated the lappie had 4.26/5 rating and it may be from the less demanding users - not gamers or video enthusiasts.

Talk about a let down!! LOL. Buyer beware! Ivan the soso you mentioned turning down the quality? How would you suggest to do that? I do not see an option to do that in any of the media players I have. I am not pleased witht hat option, but it seems that it may be the only one that I have. Guess it is time to start another build! :D I am cool with that, but I am sure my wife is not! I am thinking small footprint. Powerful enough to play HD movies and do occasional web surfing. Something I can link to my good pc and grab all the media I need. Any suggestions? I am going to have to go as inexspensive as I can. No need for fancy bells and whistles. Strictly a HD movie playing machine.

I do have a PS3. I have heard of guys using that to play HD videos. But you see alot of small format movies when browsing those sites people use for movies trading. Is that because the PS3 will not handle a fullon 1080p .mkv, .mp4, or .m2ts? I know very little of the PS3 other that playing games. This may be a viable option? (Do not think my little bro will be to happy I commandeered his game system....LMAO!!

Best that I understand about it, its basically changing the screen resolution.... ie my native resolution is 1680X1050 so I would change that to 1440X900, 1280X800, or 800X600

Now I buy power is running a special (nothing really special about it) I used their configurator and lowered it to $437, $507 with windows but the site is fun to play withiBUYPOWER Computer :: Memorial Day M Special

The best if not cheapest option that I can think of would be to take your existing small form...put the weak card in(it did play movies?) Take good card (5770) a cheap tower from a local computer store, and build a budget AMD machine or even use a I buy power base.....Also check out Wal-mart on occasion they will steeply discount their desktop systems....The Wife is using a $399 E-machine no slouch out of the box, but with a good PSU(fit right in) and a 4830 card....not bad....not bad at all....and it came with Windows 7.....

I know nothing about PS3 short of the hacking scandal......
