Laptop Won't boot and Acces BIOS after crashed Windows7 Update

Hello Mates,

My G75VW was offline for 2 weeks and when it came back on there were couple of Windows updates to be done. Picked some of them>restart. There was this typical ~configuring~please wait~ message that went for 20 min or so. I thought it's frozen so I rebooted it manually...

And than... nothing. Black screen. I can't access BIOS, Windows wont start either. The laptop works for 10s and turns off itself.

I tried generic reset with holding the power button but it failed.
I tried to boot from Windows repair disk- nothing.

Any ideas?

Did you unplug the laptop and remove the battery before holding the start button of 30 seconds? I suspect you have some other problem. A windows update cannot change bios, and the computer should post and give access to bios, even if there is no hard drive installed.

Yes, but a crash during overwriting important kernel files might be fatal... But as you say, where's the BIOS than? Do you know what might be the cause?

The problem is most likely hardware, I would think. A windows update can cause the OS to not boot, but it cannot affect the POST process itself. It could be most anything, from a dead graphics card, bad memory to bios being corrupted. When you start up, do you hear the bios beep? Do you get any sounds at all? You can try removing the CMOS Battery which should completely reset bios, and even try removing the hard drive all together and see if it will post. Once you can get it to where you can enter bios, you can usually fix anything wrong with the OS. there should be beeps for bad hardware during post if the motherboard is working correctly.

I was thinking that bios reference to the bootable kernel is corrupted and the whole system is a mess. Someone said to me that win7 has a secure boot which also impacts bios?

It seems that I'd have to take out bios battery but that probably would end warranty- the thing is- it's from States and I'm in UK and time is the matter Mate, as it's my source of income.
