Laptop won't boot

I have an acer 5742 lap top...I can't get past the click on user ...It says it needs a password but I never set up one...I use to click the picture and it would go straight to the welcome screen and then windows...Now it wants a password...I don't have one....I tried reformatting....the disk wouldn't load up....tried going into safe mode and it just won't...just gives me no screen and just sits there...How can I get back into my laptop?

You see the win7 startup animation and the logon screen? "Safe mode" doesn't work at all... no error message?? I expected "safe mode" would alos ask for a password.
Don't do a reinstall.... at least not yet, otherwise you will lose all stuff!

Can you do http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html and select "repair your computer"? If so then you can do http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/700-system-restore.html (option two) to revert back in time when all was fine.
