first i dont know much about computers so please forgive me for the ignorance. i have an acer aspire 5335 laptop and several times i have had to do a factory reset and therefore losing all info i have, please someone tell me you can help me find a solution. i feel it has something to do with the windows 7 updates. it will work fine one day then the next time i turn on i get the acer logo screen then the windows boot up screen and after that a black screen. if i try to restore to a previous point it never works. i do a startup repair and it will work maybe a few times then its a hit or miss if it works then it just stops working completely. i did the rent to own thing so i do not have any of the dvds that would come with a laptop. once again it was working fine 2 days ago and today it started doing all this again. i would really like to find a solution that would not require me to lose everything on computer. any solutions.

Did you buy the laptop with Windows 7 already installed? Acer shows that model coming with Vista, so if the rent to own company installed Windows 7 and did not provide you with an installation disc, it might not be a legit copy of Windows.

Regardless, BACK UP... copy your important files to a CD or DVD while you can. Do you know how to burn a CD?

Install Malwarebytes, then do a Full scan (for possible infections). This is to be sure your system is clean even though you likely have an antivirus program.

Let us know how this works out.

If you're using factory reset then its reinstalling the corrupt bloated factory preinstall which throttles Win7 native performance. I would do the Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 following the steps to get and keep a perfect reinstall.

Then use the cloud backup method given so your files are always safely stored for free in the MS cloud, save a WIn7 backup image externally to use in place of the bloatware recovery you're using now.

I believe it came with windows 7, at least the sticker on the laptop is a windows 7 sticker. I will try the suggestions and hopefully will work. Thank you very much!

A question, if it did originally come with vista, if I took the computer up there to repair with windows 7 disc they have would the issue still be there or would that might fix it. And yes I do have mcafee internet security.

Do not use anything by MucAfee which is the worst offender we see here. Use the tools and methods in the tutorial if you want to get and keep a perfect install.

Ask back any other questions if you're unsure.

trying to get on laptop it would never boot up. i tried safe mode, i tried repair i tried everything, undoubtedly i must have hit the restore again, dont remember doing so, but here i am stuck at a screen that says setup is starting services and i get an error popup that says "the computer restarted unespectedly or encountered an unexpected error. windows installation cannt proceed. to install windows, click "ok" to restart the comuter, and then restart the intsallation." every time i do this is sends me right back to the same "setup is starting services" and i get the exact same error popup. i have tried booting up in safe mode and it say something about cant install in safe mode restart and install and of course the setup services and error. i am at a complete loss now. i cant do anything or go anywhere but the setup services screen. have i completely screwed up my computer now?

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of marking it Active which overcomes certain install failures.

ok so after "clean" it says "virtual disk service error: clean is not allowed on the disk containing the current boot, system, pagefile, crashdump or hibernation volume"

To receive that error you must be running the commands from Windows or WinRE on the HD.

Instead follow the steps to boot the installer DVD or flash stick to access the Command prompt, or use Option Two of System Recovery Options

i can not get to system recovery. any "f" button i hit brings me right back to the setup screen which always gives me the error box, whether its the cannot no install in this mode or or installation encountered an error. its like an endless loop.

Then how exactly are you trying to run the "Clean" command?

The steps are quite specfic. If you can't perform them in order, report back the exact problem and we will work around it.

If you are unable to boot into BIOS setup to run the steps which were to come before wiping the HD, use another method to reset the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS .
Then see if you can enter BIOS setup to make the settings changes given, or boot the installer.

If you cannot boot the installer to wipe the HD, test the HD using the maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, followed by test of RAM - Test with Memtest86+ . These disks will boot themselves. Almost all of these tests are also on Hiren’s BootCD 15.1 or Hiren's BootCD From USB Flash Drive which will also boot itself and can then wipe the HD using The HD Diagnostics utility for your HD, or free Partition Wizard to Wipe Disk - Video Help.

Once you test your HD and RAM, wipe the HD with those disks or Hiren's which are all self-booting, then it will force the Win7 installer to boot itself to begin install.

once the setup service screen starts i am still hitting f10 and it brings up the command prompt, then i was following the instructions you gave earlier. as i said i completely computer illiterate so im having a hard time with a lot of the instruction. i will go step by step closely and more accurately. thank you for the help and patience. i will be back if i run into more problems.

ok so this is what i have done:

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS, enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

this part i am not sure how to go about getting to or doing:

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

after i boot into bios and do all the things you suggested i do this:

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box

i am assuming the step i am unsure of is a step i am skippin but when i hit f10 it brings me to a screen "edit boot options" and it says:

edit windows boot options for: windows 7

path: \windows\system32\winload.exe

partition: 3
hard disk: 9bb8e5e1

[ \noexecute=optin

is this a wrong screen? if i hit enter it goes straight to the setup service screen which as i have said gives the error box. i do have a spare laptop if there is something i need to burn to a cd or something

Are you still not clear that you must be booting a Win7 installation DVD or flash stick installer? You click on the blue link here to download the installer ISO for your licensed version from step 1 and then either burn the ISO file to DVD or write to flash stick using the tool provided in step 2.

Then boot the DVD or flash stick as shown here: How to Boot A Computer from CD or DVD - YouTube and proceed with the steps.

ohhhhhhhhh ok im with ya now

Let us know how it goes. If you didn't actually try an install previously, you can simply boot into the Win7 installer and begin the Custom install as shown in Clean Install Windows 7. The steps I gave you are for if Win7 will not install as you seemed to imply before.

Be sure to delete all partitions at Step 6/7 using Drive Options, create new partition(s) as you want or just click Next and the installer will do it for you and proceed.

Be sure to also read over the steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.
Everything you need to get and keep an install better than 95% of all others is there if you stick with the tools and methods given.

again, thank you so much for your help and patience. with everything laptop is up and running. previously you had said not use mcafee. how about norton? or is there another you would suggest?
