Large amount of services killing my pc!!!! help?!

i play a lot of games and i have random spikes from 2-5% to 50-100% i recently re installed windows and drivers so not much is running in processes but in services i have a huge list and i believe that may be my problem, but i do not know what i should disable or keep. help anyone? i can post or email screenshots of the list.

I think the bigger problem is the 2GB of memory. While Windows 7 will run, your at a level that's best for office, browsing and email applications not high CPU demand and memory hungry applications. If you're using 64-bit Windows, you'll notice an appreciable speed difference by adding more memory and relieving a lot of CPU time used by swapping memory in and out of the pagefile.

If you run the SF Diagnostic Utility and upload the zipped file, it will gather all the necessary information about your PC needed to make suggestions. Use the Grab All button and allow at least a few minutes for all the steps to complete before zipping the files.

I think it highly unlikely that services are causing your problem. The list might seem long but they spend the vast majority of their time waiting for something to do and while they are doing that consume zero CPU time.

ok i did the test and everything seems fine but i also have one last question.

in task manager performance tab when i hold f5 my cpu usage is a crazy zigzag and my memory is a steady line running a little below half

do you think adding 2gb memory will help this?

That is completely normal. In fact it would be very unusual to see anything else.

2 GB RAM is the minimum supported for a 64 bit OS. More would definitely be recommended.

You might want to turn off some while playing the games. One example would be file indexing. Black Viper is a pretty good reference.

Getting 4gb ram at the minimum is still a better place to start.

I do agree with LMiller7 and andrew129260.
Getting more ram would be my starting place.

You must be very careful fooling around with Black Viper.

I don't see the suggestions as mutually exclusive. More ram is always nice. However you never learn if you never try anything. If you have the luxury an old "expendable" machine is better for experimentation.

So much of Windows is still undocumented(e.g. the Registry) that most of the "documentation" you find in blogs is from people "seeing what would happen" if they changed something. And I don't think turning off file indexing is going to cause a BSOD.

Edit: Use Registry backup, image backup, Restore Points etc. before you play. Also it's better if you have a separate reliable machine for downloads/search on the net to bail you out of trouble.

Basically the idea is, don't try your first brake job on your only car if you have to be at work the next morning. Learn on a junker.
