The Last Picture Show (1971) - IMDb

Featuring a fresh faced cast in their youth before they were famous (Cybill Shepard (Taxi Driver), Jeff Bridges (Tron)), this 2 times Oscar winning movie protrays a rather grim look into the lives of a group of high schoolers in the '50s living in a metaphorically dying town and how they learn to cope with the hand that they've dealt with.

One of the great performances and ground breaking films made in the 70s.

9/10 - Must watch.

Wall Street (1987) - IMDb

Greed is Good! - Gordon Gecko
With that single statement, the character played by the amazingly versatile Micheal Douglas has summarized the crux of the movie and what it's trying to present - the ruthlessly materialistic Wall Street and it's players, engaged in the littany of ways to maximize their bottom lines, crushing all that stand in their way.

Great movie, and although dramatized to an extent, brilliantly shows the ugliness of Wall Street and the assorted characters that run it.. Made more relevant by the recent economic crisis.

9/10 - Must watch.

RoboCop (1987) - IMDb

One of the seminal movies of the 80s that was representative of most movies made during that era (Ultraviolence, blood, non-stop action and copious amounts of sexual innuendo, capped with a 'hard' R rating)

Introduced catchphrases that would remain in our lexicon to this day. (I'd buy THAT for a dollar! B***** leave!)

Clarence Boddicker is one of the best villains portrayed on the silver screen; you can't help but hate his guts.

Paul Verhoeven at his very best before slowly sliding into critical mediocrity with his subsequent Hollywood-directed movies (Total Recall (OK), Basic Instinct (still OK, but not as good), Showgirls (erggh), Starship Troopers (okayish), Hollow Man (urghhh))

Highly recommended for action-flick junkies - 8.5/10

Just watched W.E. - the film Madonna wrote + directed about the 1930s affair between King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson, interspersed with a contemporary romance between a married woman and a Russian security guard. LOVED it! It was a little hard to figure out at first, but it turned into an amazing double storyline that was gorgeously film. Interestingly, the story was told from Wallis Simpson's point of view, rather than that of the Royal family in England.

This Film Is Not Yet Rated (2006) - IMDb

Now this was something of an eye-opener to me. I've had no idea how the board that decides the ratings of movies in the US was run, and after watching this movie/documentary, I was shocked and somewhat appalled that the most powerful review board in Hollywood is run by bunch of folks with almost zero accountability and peer reviewing. Their ratings could actually determine whether a movie sells or bombs in the box office.

The feature presents the viewpoints of many celebrated directors, auteurs and others involved in the flim industry, including choice quotes from the head of the MPAA, and the creators of South Park amongst others of censorship and ratings. An in depth history into the formation of the MPAA is also covered.

If you ever wanted to know why a certain blockbuster with tonnes of violence and some sexual content gets only a PG 13 but another lesser known film gets a NC-17 for just the mention of some profanity and nudity, this is the movie for you.

9/10 - Highly recommended

One of Travolta's decent movies of the 90s. This film tells the story of an average Joe having an extra-ordinary experience which results in some miraculous changes to occur to him.

It has been a long time since a movie scared me. That's because I now see them for what they are...a lot of overgrown children pretending to be something that they aren't. Like playing cowboys and indians.

Alexander (2004) - IMDb

Widely panned, both critically and in the box office, this movie was supposed to be a dramatic retelling of the key moments of Alexander the Great's life. Its length is a close to a mind numbing 3 hours, you'll be wishing you could get back each one by the ending credits..

3/10 - Avoid

Alexander (2004) - IMDb

Widely panned, both critically and in the box office, this movie was supposed to be a dramatic retelling of the key moments of Alexander the Great's life. Its length is a close to a mind numbing 3 hours, you'll be wishing you could get back each one by the ending credits..

3/10 - Avoid
I haven't seen this newer version but figured it would be a stinker.

The Richard Burton version is good but not great. Pun not intended. :geek:

Watched McHales' Navy: The Movie yesterday. 1964 version not the remake junk. :p
Just as stupid, corny and typical as the TV show but good nostalgia. I had not seen the movie since the 60's.
