Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

Why does it take them so long to add latest drivers on update?

Just a guess, but maybe they figure there will be less complaining should there be a problem if they don't appear to be "pushing" them on anyone.

With Microsoft balls-ups of last two months of 'security/other updates' for these motherboards which have slowed the system down and caused game crashes/non starting - have gone back to 11.1 as they are known working!

For unreliability - Win 7 is back to when I first got it shortly after launch.
All the crashes and mouse freezes are back again!

I went back to a system restore 1st Feb and then reinstalled 2 months of M/soft updates in ordered, smaller chunks (rebooting in between downloads).

Had a hunch to try out the 32bit 11.4 PCI-e drivers (with AGP card) and for the first time ever, they detected the Graphic card & loaded straight on!

So 11.4 drivers do work on Socket A/AGP 4670 (but not the AGP "HOTFIX" drivers - That's ATi programmers for you!)

All crashes have stopped for now too
(after getting rid of Intellipoint 8.1 update which was causing mouse/screen problems)

I just get a message under installation saying "Install failure, Install package failure" I get that failure on both 11.2, 3 and now on 11.4 how can i get rid of that message and install the driver normally? I have an Radeon 5870 and win7 x64

i never bother with ccc (i prefer ati tray tools), i just download the driver.

anyway, wouldn't it be nice if you could download 'just' the driver, and not other bloat along with it.



and why squeeze the columns like that - there's plenty of blank space on the right.

and why does the install manager (basically just an uninstaller afaik) need to be upgraded every month?

then the installer leaves files scattered around the place* - why can't it unzip the necessary setup files into the standard temp folder, then delete them when it's done?

Still have no idea what exactly the AMD External Events service does, nor did I ever figure out what the AMD Reservation Manager did on Catalyst 11.3 (11.4 removes AMD RM service).

Wish AMD would provide some documentation on the services they stick into their stuff.

the external events doodah is to do with hotkeys that you can set up to change screen res etc - i think.

i'm too lazy right now to google and check it...

I skipped 11.3 and decided to try 11.4 and here comes a hot fix. I give up. I don't understand the big rush with AMD to release so many drives and then have to do a hot fix. It looks like they could do a little more testing.

The hotfix is only for a specific series of card and memory combination. You don't have to use it.

The release notes may only say for 6990, but the INF supports pretty much everything from the HD 2xxx series and up (desktop cards only, no mobility)

They may have missed the "c", but the download is correct from looking at the comparison posted here,

The hotfix is only for a specific series of card and memory combination. You don't have to use it.

Tell the AMD bots not to confuse people by putting a specific AGP driver link (to hotfix page) at the bottom of say, 4600 series then!

11.4 ATI Catalyst Application Profiles are out

New profiles added to this release:
- Magicka – Forced on Anti-Aliasing through the Catalyst Control Center has been disabled
- Cars 2 – resolves negative CrossFire scaling
- Need for Speed Shift 2 – resolves negative CrossFire scaling

(don't know if it's already been reported elsewhere - don't think so)
