Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7

Sorry to hear about your issues Wallonn7 :(

I've had to opposite effect in that I had no issues installing them. All I did was use the Catalyst Install Manager to uninstall the old drivers, then installed the new ones. That's it.

Anyway these seemed to fix my stutter issue with Metro 2033. Haven't tested them on any other games yet. All good so far.

There are always going to be reports of drivers failing to install for a myriad of reasons - hardware, software compatibility, system tweaks, updates/missing updates, overclocking, etc..... Honestly that can be said about any driver install.

BTW if you're missng the .net updates/installs that'll cause problems as well.

Important ! Caution !

  • The AMD display driver and the AMD Catalyst Control Center / AMD Vision Engine Control Center can be downloaded independently of each other. However, for better stability and performance AMD recommends that both components be updated from the same AMD Catalyst release.
  • The AMD Catalyst Control Center / AMD Vision Engine Control Center requires that the Microsoft® .NET Framework SP1 be installed for Windows XP and Windows Vista. Without .NET SP1 installed, the AMD Catalyst Control Center / AMD Vision Engine Control Center will not launch properly and the user will see an error message.
Notes.

  • When installing the AMD Catalyst driver for Windows operating system, the user must be logged on as Administrator or have Administrator rights to complete the installation of the AMD Catalyst driver.
  • These release notes provide information on the AMD display driver only. For information on the ATI Multimedia Center, HydraVision, HydraVision Basic Edition, Remote Wonder™, or the Southbridge/IXP driver, please refer to their respective release notes found at: AMD.com | Support & Downloads.
  • AMD Eyefinity™ technology gives gamers access to high display resolutions. As pixel count grows, the graphics horsepower required to drive the displays at a reasonable frame rate can increase dramatically. Depending on the game and system configuration, users may notice texture corruption and reduced frame rates when running games in multi-monitor Eyefinity modes.
  • Windows Driver Model (WDM) drivers are no longer bundled in the AMD Catalyst™ software suite. The WDM drivers install bundle can be downloaded independently through the AMD website

Thanks for sharing your experience with 11.5
release. :)
But I do not want to go through what I did yesterday again. :geek:

My best advice to people regarding ATI/AMD driver updates is that if it ain't broke don't fix it...

ATI (AMD now) is notorious for releasing bad drivers. Albeit it's not as bad as it use too but still rather annoying.

I'm using the 11.2 driver and so far I haven't had any problems, and until I hear enough feedback about the current newer drivers I ain't updating.

I'm really loyal to AMD, and recently switched to ATI cards about a year ago to save a little money and get more bang for buck, but I got to admit the CCC drivers are annoying as all hell.

Don't ever update your AMD driver until you've gathered feedback first.

I'd recommend to read the release notes for the newer driver released to see if the changes may apply to you or not.

If not, then you might wait until the next release.

If so, then give them a try. You can always rollback to the older driver version in Device Manager. Keeping the old driver installation file backed up as well incase you may need or want to reinstall it after uninstalling the new is a good last resort fix.

I was prompted to update to 11.6 (never been prompted by CCC before) so I did.
Much screen flickering and aero not working correctly.
I used system restore to revert back to 3 AM last night...it said restore failed, BUT I noticed that I am back to 11.5 and everything is working great again.

In the past I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Catalyst Software Suite. Each time I had to reset the scaling option. This time when I unstalled the software and rebooted everything looked good. The computer is actually working much better even though I didn't add the new software. Can I just update the driver and not use Catalyst? I never use the Catalyst software, except when my screen size gets messed up.

jpash, welcome to the Seven Forums.

yes you can. If you use the full Catalyst suite to install make sure to do a custom install (should do this with anything being installed, if for no other reason than to see what little extras might try and get installed), and uncheck anything you don't want including the CCC. Or you can go here,

ATI Radeon

and download just the driver by itself.

unigine_11.7_guru.jpg

although I got a big reduction in fps using that 11.7 test driver in Unigine, it
ran well in Crysis 2 - all maxed, went very smoothly under Crossfire 11.6CAP2
but the CCC felt "clunky" and W7 didn't seem to like it - coupla error messages..
also caused BSOD problems related to USB's when closing down PC

- could be affecting the G19 keyboard's interface - not sure..
- shan't be conducting any further experiments with it, but it looks good
- guess at the moment it's just a test-rig thingy anyway..
- interesting though - reduced fps but very, very smooth..

Sidenote: I tried to uninstall the 11.7 via Control Panel - the uninstallation did not go well,
had a severe system hang - tried a restart, and was confronted with error message from Windows 7 - Windows Explorer had stopped working - may have been caused by a partial uninstall, so I re-installed 11.7 driver and rebooted - the second attempt at removal went OK.. bit scary..
