Yesterday morning, I saw that Microsoft had released several updates (I forgot about Patch Tuesday this week). There were twenty important updates available, nineteen of which were ticked. The twentieth was a recommended Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.1 update from the end of November that I'd never thought to install. I let the nineteen new updates install themselves when I switched my PC off before stepping out for a bit. However, only eighteen updates were installed. When I came back in the afternoon, I saw that the update that wasn't installed was this month's malware removal tool.
I tried installing it again, but I also decided to install the recommended .NET Framework update. The update process got stuck on the latter update, and I couldn't stop the installation, so I restarted my PC (through the Start menu, that is, not by holding down the power button until it switched off them switching it on again). It continued to install the updates. I looked at the update history and saw that the .NET Framework update was installed successfully, and that the malware removal tool was cancelled.
This morning, three more updates were installed - a definition update for Windows Defender, and two security updates for the .NET Framework. Again, the malware removal tool wasn't installed.
Right now, it is the only important update available, and it's ticked. I appreciate any help you can provide.
