Hi all....

I'm posting this in 2 places hoping to get a solution....

I cannot install any of the newer NVIDIA updates; WHQL or Beta. None of the 275's will install, no matter what i try to do or how i try to do it. I am currently running on the 259.87 package that came with my graphics card. It's not bad, but i would really like to have the extra functionality that comes with the newest updates.

I have done both an Express and Custom w/clean install and it always fails right at the point that the install gets to the Control Panel part of the installation. I've tried every trick i can find on the web to no avail. I AM the administrator, and I have also tried using the Admin account - with zero luck. I've tried stepping thru the installation with the 260.99 & 270.61 updates and have the same problem over and over.

So, is there a reasonable and logical explanation for all this - along with, one hopes - a reasonable and logical solution? Or is there a ghost in the machine with a bad attitude? NVIDIA swears the newest updates work, and I see folks in this forum saying they do, but I can't figure out why.

Any help out there?

have you tried completely wiping the previous driver before installing?
Here's a good tool for that.
Phyxion.net - Driver Sweeper

Nope. Didn't work, the installation still failed. And I was a little bit off in my original post - the failure comes when the update gets to the Control Panel, not the System Update.

Any other suggestions?

I've tried BOTH the Windows Uninstaller and the uninstaller that comes with Advanced System Care Pro 4 - and I still get the same result.

All of the previous driver folders are now gone from the c:\NVIDIA folder so i will try to install 275.33 once more.

FYI: Windows Update brought me back to 270.61, so I'm jumping off from there.

wish me luck.....:banghead:

update: no luck. 275.33 failed again, and really messed up my 270.61 installation. going to wipe the slate clean and re-install 270.61.....

maybe i shoulda got an ATI?

I've had good and bad experiences with both companies.
Neither one is really superior in my personal experience.
They've both put out bad drivers, they both suffer from update issues.

Dig through these forums enough you kind of get the idea...
