Latest Version of Adobe Flash Player

How many times do Adobe want to keep updating this! Seems to be far too regulary. I thought they were supposed to be in sync with patch tuesday also. It's only a couple days behind but it's annoying as I already did the windows updates on tuesday - would of been nice to of got these out the way too and looked forward to 5 weeks 'hopefully' of no more updating to do.

Annoying as it is, frequent updates are far safer than allowing a vulnerable version to continue to run until a scheduled patch date arrives.

I guess your right. It's been a bad week for updates. After installing any update I then have to do some testing on each device/machine (mild OCD!).

My wife is losing patience with me!!! On Monday iOS 8.2 hit hard - with 3 ipads and an iphone to then deal with, tuesday all the windows updates and 3 computers at home to do & now the flash update. Admittedly updating flash isn't nearly as stressful as the other two. All I need is apple to throw an iTunes update down the pipe this week for the full set!!!

Look at it this way; all those updates are far less annoying than having to deal with removing malware, regaining stolen identity, etc.

The latest versions are 17.0.0.134 (Win and Mac); and 11.2.202.451 (Linux). All users are encouraged to update to these latest versions.

The Distribution page still has version 16.0.0.305 listed.

New version 17.0.0.134 is now on the Distribution page and the Flash page.

I've just downloaded Flash Player 17.0.0.169 (IE).exe and when you run it, it says I need to uninstall the previous version first. Adobe keep changing their mind with flash player sometimes it installs without uninstalling and sometimes it doesn't. The amount of flash player updates which come out every few days to me they don't do a good job the first time.

Its like FireFox their updates with come out virtually daily.

I've also never had to uninstall before updating.
I have seen in some cases where the downloaded exe would not update, and found it was caused by some type of security permission.
Copying the exe to a different folder and running from there worked for me.
This is with the exe's downloaded from the standalone page.

I've always uninstalled and just re-downloaded flash and bit cleaner.

But since flash is for the most part unneeded I leave it uninstalled modern browsers don't need it in most cases.

That worked with the latest update. I normally put the exe in a seperate programs update folder where I have all rights. Thats the same on my WinXP computer.

Updates are normally about 17Kb but some are only 1.5Kb and they download the files to install.

I tried to install this on my WinXP and it said I needed to uninstall it first, stupid app.

I have multi-boot / multi-user PC's ...
I never figured out WHY it has problems sometimes ...

I usually uninstall with the Adobe official Flash removal tool , reboot and then reinstall . My computer doesn't seem to update automatically while my Fathers does , same AV and settings on both.


I also notice Flash is not needed in most cases , in Opera plug ins it's often disabled and i see no difference.

Sometimes it does indeed leave files behind and I then run a script to remove them. Then I install the versions that I need after a reboot. It been that way for me since this used to happen:

Also the advice is to close all programs that are using Flash Player before updating or removing it. If that's not done it causes problems with files that need to be deleted or replaced not being deleted or replaced.

That's also what i experienced few years ago before i realized i was doing that wrong. Now i carefully remove the all Flash player before any updates/versions.

Well after running the dedicated removal tool from Adobe I run other software (UVK) and run a UVK script. I don't know if that helps but here's the script:

Explanation:

<SDelete> removes any files or folders below that line by force deleting them avoiding the recycle bin. If there's anything that can't be deleted it's force deleted on the next boot.
