Latitude 6530 Installation From USB Fails - No Device Drivers Found.

Next step where I'm stuck

Thanks for the Crucial SSD recommendation.

So now the installation completes. I add an account and download the Ethernet driver, connect to the Internet. Off it goes and after a couple of hours says there are many updates to download and apply. I set those off and when I return to the machine the following screen is shown

I select the UK keyboard and Enter, then the following screen is shown

I select Contiinue to Windows 7 and after a couple of minutes it restarts with the "choose your keyboard" screen. The Troubleshoot option gives a choice of Recovery Manager (for HP ???? backup) or Advanced options

The Advanced Options choice gives

The Startup Repair doesn't work. Any ideas welcome.

Thanks

Which startup repair?

Did you try win7 startup repair by booting the win7 installation media?

Why have got a windows 10 boot menu?

If you used WU to get the updates for win7, it will likely restart a couple of times while installing all that lot. Each time it restarts, you will get the boot menu selection.

Try getting a Windows 10 ISO and putting the Windows 7 install.wim in the Windows 10 sources folder.

This post has already been resolved!

Also don't forget to flag it as resolved.

Sorry I don't follow that this has been solved. The original issue of no drivers is fixed but I am now stuck on completing the updates to Win 7. Should I have raised a separate post for this part?

Can you explain further ploease how to do "putting the Windows 7 install.wim in the Windows 10 sources folder"?

This blue stuff ( like the picture below ) is windows 10. It doesn't exist in windows 7. That is what I mean by the win10 boot menu.

If you want to use windows 7 startup repair, you have to use windows 7 bootable media.

Ah thank you for explaining. I am wondering if when I have left the PC overnight to do the updates it has automatically updated from Win 7 to Win 10 (didn't think this was possible) and is now calling for Win 10 installation media which I haven't got.

So 2 questions,
1. If I reinstall Win 7 SP1, can I prevent it auto updating to Win 10?
2. Someone mentioned in a reply "Try getting a Windows 10 ISO and putting the Windows 7 install.wim in the Windows 10 sources folder." If this is the better thing to do, is there a Tutorial explaining a bit more detail how to do this please? Including the best place to get the Win 10 ISO.

Thanks again,

There was thing that offered to "upgrade" to win10. I thought it had stopped a long time ago.

I haven't seen anybody mention it for ages.

No idea how you did that..

Easiest way is to run simplix update pack, instead of trying windows update.

On some very recent machines win7 doesn't natively have the necessary drivers in boot.wim.

That is one possible workaround.

Not relevant for you because you were able to install from win7 installation media
