My first guess would be Power supply. If you have a spare laying about you could swap it out and see if you moms pc will post.

Think that would be it? it boots up 100% fans and everything HDD and that's it stays at the boot menu.

Think it might be a hardware issue, i replaced the HDD with my spare blank one 40GB and same thing, just boots to the "Gateway logo" dosent show what buttons to press for a boot menu so i can boot windows 7.
Pressed ESC and all the Function keys and nothing.
It's a old gateway 3250s with 1.5gb of ram and a 80gb sata HDD.
Was working fine yesterday morning.

Download and burn to CD free Partition Wizard bootable CD, it will autostart to wipe the HD from Boot tab. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/93322-partition-wizard-use-bootable-cd.html

Then insert the Win7 install DVD or REcovery disks which should autostart with wiped HD.

If not, try resetting the CMOS using battery-removal method here: http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/tp/clearcmos.htm

Next Download the latest BIOS version update for that model, follow the instructions at the download link and in the unzipped Read Me file to flash the BIOS again as it appears to be corrupted.

If you do not feel safe doing this, have a tech friend help you. Or ask back here for more specific help.

I've seen this when memory has gone bad. If you have more than one stick of memory, remove one at a time and try it, see what happens.
