Laundry

I guess that the only reason that I'm posting this is because I'm somewhat aggravated at the moment, but I just returned from the apt. laundry room, where I had a couple of dryers going, only to find that another tenant had removed my clothes to dry hers. I might have understood, if the clothes had remained in the dryer for a long time, but they might have stopped running only 10 minutes before, and I had warned her that the machine in question was not drying properly, when she was loading the washing machine. My clothes were still wet after running them twice already.

I told her bluntly, not to touch my clothes again, to which she said that I should have stayed in the laundry watching the machines. She also said that she was going to report me to the apt. management in the morning, to which I encouraged her to do.

Why do some people think that they have the right to mess with other peoples belongings? This is called the Chillout Forum, so that is what I'm hoping to do.

I guess laundry etiquette would suggest that if a timer was set, it would be wise to be there when it stopped.
Here, people rarely leave their gear unsupervised - it would be stolen.

I have to confess that I have done the same thing. When a dryer would stop, if the owner of the clothes was not around, I would unload them into a basket or a cart and put mine in. However, I would not do it if the load was still damp.

It would seem to me that the etiquette involved is much like opinions, everybody has their own. Mine is that no one touches my clothes, unless for some reason I have left them in a machine beyond a reasonable length of time. That goes for a public laundry, but the laundry involved is not public. This complex is for the elderly and disabled, therefore no one is on a strict timetable like those who work, thus there is no excuse for such actions.

In essence, I was. I live about 3 doors down the hallway from the laundry. If you are suggesting that I should sit in the laundry while the machines run, that was pretty much her attitude, in fact she feels that it is a rule going beyond mere etiquette. Of course, when I removed my clothes from the other machine, and let her have it, I noticed that she isn't sitting in the laundry, or is anywhere in sight waiting for it to finish.

Sadly in todays world manners are considered old fashioned and not to be bothered with. So just chill out in the chillout forum.

I'm with you. My reaction would have been a little more direct. I'd have immediately pulled her clothes out and put my back in.

I would definitely have encouraged her to go to management. Heck, I'd have escorted her there.

If it ever happened again, her clothes would be unceremoniously dumped on the floor.
