I'm on the trail of what might turn out to be quite a boon for those folks with resolution and refresh rate issues. Seems that Windows caches a copy of the monitor EDID since querying it can be very time consuming at startup each time. There appears to be no "protection" on that stored binary value and I've been able to modify some aspects of the Screen Resolution dialog by futzing with the bits and doing a logon/off cycle. Anyone care to embark in this little research project along with me?

I need folks that are having issues with missing native resolutions, 59Hz, etc. to test custom override EDIDs. I can't very well create a complete solution with the limited hardware resources I have at my disposal.

I would, but the 59 Hz issues is statistically insignificant, so there is really no point in doing that....

But the cause could be ascertained -- my theory is that 59.94 KHz is the EDID clock and Windows is truncating rather than rounding one way and not the other. Admittedly, it's more useful for getting HDTVs and LCD panels to display unavailable resolutions when capable but the EDID is incomplete.

OK, since I have the 'problem' what do you need?

Or would this be faster via WLM / Skype?

My EDID info can be found in this post from last month or thereabouts.
http://www.sevenforums.com/51595-post47.html

Im not going back to Win7 until this issue is resolved, as it affects me greatly. The only resolution I am happy with is 1080.
That said though, I will test it, I am due a reinstall soon anyways.#

Are any of you guys using ATI cards? I ask on the off chance that they might have fixed it in the 9.4 drivers.... But i should know better than to ask that..

These are my EDID Information. i have a 23" 1920x1080 Monitor hooked up to a ati 4830 via hdmi. crysis and far cry 2 only work with dx9 for me but world in conlfict , company of heros and battleforge work fine with dx10

That EDID is perfectly formed. What specific issues are you encountering? Is it just that Windows 7 is showing 59Hz instead of 60? That's known and unless it's causing issues, it can be ignored. Exact 1080p is at 59.94Hz and Windows is just rounding down...

the problem is the windows vista/7 desktop and these two directx 10 games dont use the full monitor when i choos a resolution higher than 1440x900 the image gets scaled down to 1440x900 and i have black borders surrounding the displayed content... exept in crysis there i get an out of range error when i choose 1920x1080 but every other resolution results in 1440x900.

with the desktop it is no problem i just use the ccc and use overscan. But it dont seem to apply to the games.

world in conflict and coh have the same issu unless i activate 1080p60 in the hdtv support...

and i dont know how it corresponds with the problem but when ich run far cry 2 in dx9 i can choos 50 59 and 60 herz in dx10 only 50 and 60

the wierd thing is that the error only occurs with dx10. when i start the games in dx9 there is no problem selecting 1920x1080.

omg this is the exact problem im having! It made Win7 practically unusable and i had to fux with 3 different cable types to even get my resolution to fill the screen

In XP, you could manually set the rate in dxdiag, but the option is unavailable in Win7.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Hello
I already postet part of the EDID informations in the following thread:
http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-cards/1792-59hz-20.html#post238920

The main issue is, that some games are at a fixed resolution of e.g. 1024x768@59Hz and are centered in the middle of the screen while everything around it is black. The reported resolution from my monitor is 1920x1200?! I can reproduce that effect with my desktop: Setting it to 1024x768@59Hz = 1920x1200 real and desktop centered. Setting it to 1024x768@60Hz (here 60Hz work fine!) = 1024x768 real and I can scale the image with my monitor osd.

But here is the complete one, if you prefer the .dat-file, you'll find it here.

I just bought a 2433bw (1920x1200) and it's saying my native res is 1280x1024, and I can't get it any higher than 1280x1024

I added in a custom res in nvidia drivers, and it got to 1920x1080, but for 1920x1200 it said it wasn't supported

It won't let me turn off scaling either

Update... I've just installed the manufacturer drivers and Microsoft drivers for my monitor, and now MonInfo doesn't show a 'Real time' option, only a Registry one. The registry one is the same as above.... even though I've installed the drivers

Please tell me that there is a solution to this problem...

I would post my MonInfo, but I don't have my moniotr in "Display IDs", just four [Sample]s with names like ABC.

If there's no soluiton yet, I swear, I'm gonna cut myself :P.

Monitor EDID corrupt - Now Win7 blurry

Baarod,

I still have a problem after Win 7 stopped recognizing my Viewsonic VP950B monitor. During a reboot something happened and I would imagine that the EDID in the monitor got corrupted. (sent the monitor back for repair.

Win 7 does recognize another VP950b that I have here but now my screen is a bit fuzzy and I cannot make cleartype fonts look good. I am at the native screen resolution, etc. but it seems that something is just not as it appears.

Your post got me thinking that maybe there is a corruption in the cahed EDID info?

Any ideas?

Hi,

Slightly off topic, but it is EDID related, n u guys seem to know what your on about n i desperately want help so here goes.

Basically there is a known problem with Nvidia cards to Philips TVs.

What happens is when I connect through HDMI the TV flashes up 'no video signal' or 'unsupported video format'.I've been through allsorts like length or quality of cable, changing drivers, resolutions, refresh rates, tinkering with Nvidia control things, nothing.

Looked on here and got a resolution:

GTX280 and HDMI to DVI problems - NVIDIA Forums

HOWEVER, since upgrading drivers to windows 7 version, things have changed and its back.

The problem is the EDID of the TV as a monitor, and in older drivers there was a .inf fix to override it, but in newer drivers for Nvidia the layout on the .inf is different so this fails. I would happily keep the old driver, but it prevents my ability to play blurays which is a big part of my computer (media center).

Old layout of .inf

Hi!

First of all, sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I'm having some Hz-problems.
Yesterday I changed my gfxcard from Radeon HD 4890 to a Radeon HD 5850 and now I'm unable to change Hz on my monitor. CCC (Catalyst control center) tells me that the maximum allowed refreshrate is 60Hz, but I've used 100Hz on this monitor when I had the 4890-card. The monitor is a CRT 19" from shg.dk. The 'name' of the monitor is "shg Computers" (k-900 according to MonInfo).

So, if anyone has any idea on how to "remove" the hertz-limit enforced by CCC that'd be great, since I get headaches when having only 60Hz :(
