LCD TV Problem

I know this isn't a TV forum but I trust your opinions and views.

My problem is my 32inch Sanyo 720 HDTV, about 4 years old, is getting shadows, or ghost looking images on the screen. They are mostly visible when the screen is dark. They started appearing about a year ago and are now getting much bigger, about 1/5th of the screen maybe. Has anyone else seen this problem or know what it is?

Have you tried playing around with the brightness/contrast settings?

Otherwise, it sounds like it may be dying a slow death, particularly if it is getting worse over time. Not a huge sanyo fan here and an LCD should last longer than 4 years but not always.

Thanks for the quick response. I have tried changing all the settings, I agree with you that it is dieing a slow death. I've been planning on upgrading in the next few months. Was just hoping to salvage it as a TV for my room but I fear it'll be dead within the next year or so.

It might be worth upgrading and just keeping your current TV in your room until it completely dies.

We have a Sony Bravia 42" here and IMHO it is worth paying the extra money for a good quality TV. I have heard good things about Hisense which is a relatively new brand to Australia but apparently popular in the US (could be wrong but that is just what I heard).

That was the TV I was looking at. Going with the slightly cheaper TV has been fine but I have a bit extra to spend so I'll get the Sony 42 inch this time.

The popular brands I know of are Samsung, LG, Sony, Sharp, Panasonic, and Pioneer (they're not producing anymore though). Samsung is considered the best LCD out there right now, especially the LED series. The Pioneer Kuro series, if you can find them, are the best Plasma.

Interesting you say that about Samsung because here in Oz, they are *mostly* the cheap, Big W type brand. I do know of their LED TVs, however which are considerably more expensive.
