My problem sounds similar to the guy w/ the mac. I bought a new HP gaming system.

Specs:
HPE-170f
9GB Memory
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
Video Card: GeForce GTX 260, Memory 1.75 GB

Installed steam and L4D2. Won't boot, but doesn't crash. Completely reloaded everything after wiping steam. Still won't boot. Tried every compatibility mode. No behavior change. Loaded updated video card driver. No change. Ughh. Any suggestions?

Thanks for assist Greyno, but I've been through that post. I don't see the steam client service running when steam is running, but even if I start up the service in the services manager when steam is running, the behavior is the same. Wierd thing is, the problem doesn't throw an error to any log I can find (including event logger).

Thanks for redirect though. I appreciate any any other advice.

Go Zags, (my bears won tonight as well)!

Hi owen,

Could you elaborate a little more on "My problem sounds similar to the guy w/ the mac."
Have you tried deleting the clientregistry.blob?

Yes I have! And it's a good suggestion. Works for many problems, and I've used it before.

This problem I have is odd. Two weeks of internet trolling by a mid level user, and I'm still stumped.

When I try to launch steam games, the game starts to load, but stops. It throws no error. Not in event logger, nor in any steam log file. There was a guy with a mac that had a very similar problem. See the trailing. He solved it w/ a driver fix.

His thread trails. http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/36326-left-4-dead-wont-run-windows-7-home-mac-help.html

I've posted more details in a steam forum.

I'm offering a $20 reward to the person that finds the solution. Good hunting!!!

Try reinstalling L4D2, and if that doesnt work, steam as well.

I have this problem occasionally, but usually trying again fixes it.

Will do, but I've done that twice already. What the heck, can't hurt to try. I do have some new info though.

I downloaded a demo for a non steam game (through steam) and downloaded the half life 2 demo. Walla!!!! both run!!!

So, this is some lame steam problem with new games and a relatively new pc.

Downloading we go.................

have you tried elevating the games cpu priority?

under the games launch options, found in your steam games list, right click the game, properties.

put this -high

This will run the game at high cpu priority.
You might want to make sure you are running the game under an administrator account as well.

Well the first thing I see is that aero is not running. I notice that your title bar on that window is a solid blue and not transparent. Which would lead me to believe that you may be having a graphic driver issue.

Have you updated the graphics driver on your system recently?

Sometimes you can get it through windows update, manufacturers website, or from the graphics processors site.

What graphics do you have? Your system specs on list the OS as Acer.

I am assuming you are using a laptop. Is the laptop even capable of running left 4 dead 2?
