Is a message stating the hard drive is about to fail a legit message thru Windows 7?
I find it hard to believe this drive is failing at less than 1yr.
Seagate 1Tb.

your best bet is see if the drive is failing by going to Seagates website and use their tools to verify if the drive is having a problem

Of course - but I won't be able to get to my client till 5pm CDT and he is worried. Started to see the message last night.
Just curious if Win7 has that capability to warn of a failing hard drive.

I believe is does.
I'm on XP box right now but last night I was looking at that section in Win 7.

Computer health I think it was called.
Tell your client to copy important files over to some other PC And to use a imaging program to make a system image. That way if and when it fails, and all HDD fail, he can install a new drive and load the image on it.

Yep - he's got carbonite running now...but a worrier. And for good reason, all of his business is conducted on it.

Off site Online backups are fine I guess but that does not help if you have a total hard drive failure. You will still need to reload the OS and all your program. Then have to download all your files from the net.

That is why I suggest a good drive imaging program. They just work, saved my butt many times over the years.
Also a good external USB drive to do daily backups of data file. This should be normal practice for any business that has all there data on a computer.

Now if I could only make the company I work for understand that.
Wanted them to install a NAS of some type to do daily backups of at least the office manager/book keeper/payroll persons PC.

Well, at least it is caught early enough. I use Acronis to clone the drives. I would set a client up with it to run automatically, but either way, they would have to call me so I do it all.

Hard drives are CHEAP, especially when you consider the value of your business data. Client (or you) need to purchase a replacement drive locally ASAP and get the failing drive copied (use the software included with the new drive).
