Hello. I am having a problem with my libraries icon in explorer, and was wondering if anyone could help me. To clarify, I mean the icon for just Libraries, not the icon of an individual library itself. I registered here just to ask this question. A few days ago I attempted to change my libraries icon through the registry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}. It didn't work, and it just changed to the default error icon. I changed it back to the original setting, but the icon still doesn't load. Anyone have an idea on how this could be fixed?

Hello Hitchhiker, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might double check using the tutorial below to make sure that you have the default icon path used for it. In addition, be sure to close and reopen the Windows Explorer window to apply. Sometimes a restart may be needed though.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/34032-libraries-icon-change-default-icon.html

If that does not help, then you can do a system restore using a restore point dated before you applied the change originally.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Incidentally, that is the same tutorial where I got this idea from originally. I've restarted my computer a few times in the course of the last few days since my attempted correction to no avail, and apparently the earliest restore point I have didn't go back to a time before I changed the icon. I couldn't think of any other solution which is why I came here. Oh well. Unless there is something I'm missing, I guess I'll just have to live with an unimportant, although admittedly annoying broken icon.

Thank you, you're very helpful. I'll give it a try.

Hm, the library-ms didn't seem to work. As for a repair install, I'm not exactly sure how that would work. I have an Asus UL30A that came pre-installed with windows 7. It came with some kind of recovery dvd, but I'm not sure just exactly what's on it. In any case, I don't have an optical drive to put it in in the first place. Curse you inexplicably corrupted libraries icon !

Ok, not to worry. As a test, create a new administrator account.

If it it ok in it, then you can copy of the user folders and hidden folders in the old user account's C:\User\(user-name) folder into the corresponding new account's C:\User\(user-name) folders. If everything checks out ok, then you can delete the old account while logged into the new account.

Hm, one more question, though, if I may. The hidden user account folder AppData wouldn't copy properly, but I was able to do things like transfer all my bookmarks and extensions in Chrome by copying its files individually. My documents and things are no problem as I keep them on a separate partition from windows. Now maybe I'm just dreaming, but it would be nice to not have to reset all of my control panel options, folder views, registry tweaks and things like that. Is there possibly some kind of way to duplicate or transfer all my other settings from the old profile to the new one, so that I wouldn't have to start from scratch?

If you didn't before, be sure to only copy the contents in the "Local", "LocalLow", and "Roaming" folders in the "AppData" folder in the new account's folders for these instead to see if that works for you.

I did try that, but then when I logged into the other account, instead of using the user folder Hitchhiker (I named it that for the test), it created a new folder called Hitchhiker 2 or something like that, the AppData in which was for the most part empty. It's okay though, I think I'll be able to sort it out. Once again, thank you. You've been a huge help. :geek:
