Libre Office, Or...?

Hello,

Looking for a (free) alternative to MS WORD and Excel.

Guess there are several possibilities.
Would like to pick just one, and try to learn it well.

Is Libre Office the one to use ?

Or,...?

The Google Docs, not having a "Save As" would, I think, frankly drive me up the wall.

Would like as much "compatibility," and ability to interchange with MS as possible.

Thoughts on would be most appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

Do you need a Word/Excel alternative just because or because you want a free option? Microsoft Starter 2010 is still out there and its free.

Also Microsoft Office online is free https://office.live.com/start/default.aspx

This has the Save As feature you want.

If you really still want another alternative, I would say Libre Office or OpenOffice are your best choices. Nothing is going to be 100% compatible with MSOffice but they are close.

Libre Office is what I use in Linux. It is more advanced than Open Office. If the documents are not too fancy, they are compatible with Windows Office and vice versa. But advanced features - e.g. in PowerPoint/Impress may not exactly map.

Google Docs may not have SaveAs but it does have the ability to save a copy which is pretty close to the same thing.
