Hi,

I have the above mentioned webcam and Windows 7 Build 7000 x64 will not properly load the driver. Installing the driver is not a problem, but when I connect my webcam and windows tries to load the driver I get an error. This webcam worked in Vista 64 so it's odd that it is not working now. I'm starting to think that it's a permission issue somewhere.

I know one person has posted a similar issue about his VX1000 but that was a week ago and I'm curious to see if someone has managed to get this webcam working or has had another piece of hardware act this same way.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry Guys I thought I replied to this post, that's odd, it was me who has the problems with BSOD's but as far as installing the driver correctly that was a different story.

You will need to go to your device manager and select your device and upgrade the drivers by manually directing it to your setup disc, it will then find the correct drivers and install them.

I used your suggestion and it works. It's kind of odd that the old driver works but the new one doesn't. Ah well maybe they'll have this sorted out by RC1.
Thanks for your help.

Hi,
I found that site earlier as well but when I installed the driver successfully my system still said there was no web cam installed even though it showed up correctly in my device manager. I ended up reinstalling the driver from device manager by having the driver install wizard search my entire C drive. It found the right driver, installed it and told me to reboot.
It works now.

I was able to do the manual install before with the old drivers, but now I have misplaced the cd; I figured that won't be a problem, I'll just download the driver from Microsoft.

Anyway, short story made long, it installs the microphone just fine, but for the actual cam it says "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) The specified path is invalid." I looked at the Microsoft help for this error and it was of no help.

I figure since it worked with the old drivers fine, does anyone know where I can get those old drivers or can someone post those old drivers (I think it was called LifeCam 1.6)?? Can't find it on Microsoft site or online...

Windows 7 beta & Lifecam (VTX 1000)

Thanks for the advice here.
I had a problem installing the drivers for VTX1000.
The solution was to install the drivers from the Microsoft Hardware Support website (for Windows 7 beta).
After following the instructions, i.e. install, pluging in the cam at the step prompted, Windows attempts to look for the drivers from Windows update.
This fails.
I then rebooted and tried various thing but the solution was to do as above.
Go into device manager, the imagining device (for the cam) was shown "unknown" with a "?". Selecting and updating the device driver to search on the hard disk (Windows install volume, .e.g. C: found the correct driver and its works fine now.
Many thanks for the tips here.
Good luck. :D

So for a few months now I've been happily using windows 7 without problems, until I decided to pull out my webcam (vx-3000). I've followed all the suggestions in this and other threads on the forum, troubleshooting leads to the same result constantly. Whenever I open the webcam software or attempt to use it in the windows live messenger, I'll get the "Initalization Error." Even though everything reads green and happy. I haven't seen the webcam "light up" even though it's been connected and looks good on device manager, with no problems etc. I used the 2.9 install located on the win7 MS page, driver version on the device reads 5.12.1.61, if anyone can offer me a solution to what's going on, I would be terribly greatful. My mom really wants to see her grandson lol.

Read all installation notes and known issues for important information before beginning software installation.

Installation Notes
Always install the software using the Setup program instead of installing the drivers directly.
When the Setup program is finished, open the LifeCam beta software by double-clicking the LifeCam icon on the desktop.
If your audio and video must be adjusted, open the LifeCam Dashboard, click Settings, and then click "Audio / Video Settings" and follow the instructions to adjust the settings for your speakers, microphone, and video.
Known Issues
Microsoft is aware of the following known issues when using the LifeCam beta software with the Windows® 7 operating system beta.

The LifeCam beta software is currently available in US English only but can be installed on all localized versions of the Windows® 7 operating system beta.
AMCap 2.0 does not work on Windows 7 Beta (AMCap 9.1 does work).
Avermedia tuning cards may disrupt the video stream from your LifeCam.
The Post to Windows Live Spaces button does not work.
The Audio and Video Tuning button in LifeCam does not work with Windows Live 9.0. WORKAROUND: If you need to adjust your microphone or camera, use the Audio and Video setup in the Windows Live Messenger Tools menu.

I appreciate your efforts, but I have been doing all of that, I don't have anything that would interfere as far as I know. The problem with the Initialization Error is that I'm unable to access the Audio/Video Settings, they are disabled when that error is given, also makes the settings inaccessible during a video call through windows live as well.

Uninstall any and all software you've tried to date. Use device manager to uninstall (not disable) the device and delete the drivers when prompted. Disconnect the device. Install the Windows 7 device package I linked to. Connect the device. Run AMCap to test. If that fails run Webcam Diagnostics:

Videoconferencing and Video Capture Tools

Any other ideas? I'm considering thinking that the webcam is just broken or something, but I'd really rather not go out and have the same thing happen with a new one :/
EDIT: thanks for all your help by the way, realized I didn't say thank you lol
