LightScribe software???

My new computer came with ATAPI iHAS224 B ATA CD-ROM drives, and it
says "LightScribe" right on the front so it should have this capability built in.

But, there doesn't seem to be any software to use the LightScribe feature of
being able to print a label on to a CD.

Anybody know where to get an open source, or low cost, program that enables me to be able to use LightScribe?

Actually, the lightscribe site says I really need to get software
from my CD-Rom manufacturer... which I haven't found yet.

Just get it from that link, it will work just fine. I have a ATAPI iHAS424 B ATA CD-ROM. Get the System Software and the two Labeler. I mostly use the Simple Labeler . The drive is made by Lite-On.

You will also need the proper CDs or DVDs burned a label on them Lightscribe cd - Google Search

The program itself should be in the start menu -> All Programs-> LightScribe Disc Labeling
But you do not need to do anything special. It just works when it needs to.


You do need, as mentioned, special discs to burn images to.
Also, you likely need software to create the images and burn them to the disc. I have Nero Cover Designer for mine. Cyberlink has a similar app and Im sure there are many more.

After you have used Lightscribe you may find it really wasn't worth the effort. While it can create disk labels, the process to create a label is so lengthy and time consuming that it is actually tortuous, IMO. I think I used my Lightscribe capable drive to create a label once and found the time to do it completely negated the usefulness. I still have a stack of unused Lightscribe CDs sitting in a desk drawer in case I ever have a bunch of time to waste making labels for CDs.

Even if time consuming, Lightscribe labels would be an improvement over the older stick on labels. I once spent over an hour removing the label from a music CD because it was too thick to allow me to get a decent rip on either one of my machines or the external drive I have.

Truth be told, that's what I do. The Light Scribe label would make more sense for something that needed to look more professional.

I just use a sharpie myself most of the time. But I do make Lightscribe discs for something special or important. Like my Windows DVD and Acronis recovery discs, etc.

I guess the good old Sharpie could be considered the Poor mans Light Scribe OR, the Lazy Mans Light Scribe.

Whatever lable, if any, you want to put on it ... its a must have for me. Got to have a couple handy at all times

Funny you should say that because I also had one crash. I had to toss an extra fine the other day because it started leaking and the ink collected in the cap, spilling on me when I opened it (mutter, mutter, mumble, mumble!).

OK so, where can I find a good program for making the artwork to lightscribe to the CD?
