I am running windows 7 and just recently my internet connection is no longer working. I have tried to disable and enable the adapters. I have run virus and spyware cleaners and cleaned the computer and no luck.
I Reset TCP/IP stack to installation default: netsh int ip reset reset.log
then I ran ipconfig /renew and got the error that no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation

I then Reset WINSOCK entries to default: netsh winsock reset catalog
and got the error: the system cannot find the file specified

I replaced the Winsock regestry entery with one from another windows 7 computer I have that is operationg correctly but still get the error no adapter is in the state permissible for this operation after I ran ipconfig /renew

The protocols are set to automatically obtain an ip address.

Can anyone help?

Since it wasn't mentioned, I would also look into rebooting your router, if you have one. It seems like you went nuclear before trying a small bang, you know?

Now that you've gone way out, what does the reset.log say happened when you reset TCP?

I'd like to see the results of an ipconfig /all.

This is probably the longest I've ever had a Windows machine run without having to restore it to scratch. I'm used to restoring to "factory" about every 2 yrs. I've run with Win7 since new in 2009 and only recently (Nov, '14) restored to clean up the machine from all my 'xperimenting. LOL!! I may never need another machine.

Upgraded to 10 when it was still free, then installed 2017 update.
I have reset the router and all the other devices are working fine.

here is the results of ipconfig /all

Based on what I see here, there is no Ethernet adapter or Wireless adapter installed. I'm quite sure that is why the /renew didn't work. Until you have a working net adapter, /release and /renew won't do any good for you. Does your System Manager show a network adapter installed? I think you may have a bad adapter, and a need to replace it. Of course, check your drivers.

From what I saw, none of the adapters that you mention are showing up.

From Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System, start the device manager and look for network adapters. At least one of the adapters you mention should show up. Show us a screen shot of the manager.

I think this is a hardware issue. Here's something to try... See if that USB wireless adapter works on anyone else's system. Be sure to use the latest drivers in ANY case. If it does, then bring it to your system and try it again.

I'm sure that there are people here who can climb into the inner working of your system if this doesn't end up working out.

The Op may want to run the sfc/scannow command, it sounds like some system files are missing or corrupted. :)
