I have two laptops, L1 and L2. Recently, L2 stopped connecting to the internet via my Linksys wireless router. However, L1 can still connect just fine via the same router. L1 runs winXP SP3, L2 runs win7 Home Premium x64 SP1. Usually when L1 or L2 stops connecting, I turn off the wireless cards on both computers, power-cycle the modem and router, turn on the wireless cards, and then the laptops both connect. However, this workaround isn’t working for L2 anymore.
The event viewer shows errors such as the following:
The IP address lease 192.168.1.100 for the Network Card with network address 0x70F1A12F2601 has been denied by the DHCP server 0.0.0.0 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message). Event ID 1002.
and
Your computer was not able to renew its address from the network (from the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0xA4BADBB01388. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server. Event ID 1003.
(I tried using both the wireless and ethernet cards, but both experienced the same lack of connectivity, with the same error messages.)
I have found seemingly relevant threads here and here, but the solutions proffered have not worked.
The network diagnostic tool says:
Root Cause: Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding. Root Cause Guid: {902390d9-0cd9-4f91-9e6c-8fa5e6dad657}
AAAH... SOLUTION:
After doing a system restore, I regained connectivity. The point I restored to did not affect any installed programs or drivers, so I don’t know exactly what changed to cause the problem. I sure hope anyone else with this error has as easy of a fix. If not, I hope some of the solutions in the links above work for you.
