Linksys DHCH Clients Table

When I view the clients table in 192.168.1.1 settings, I see all computers that I recognize connected to the router. But when I open up Linksys EasyLink Advisor, It shows that another computer is connected somehow but is not showing up in the clients table. There is also a WPA Personal password on the router. Which one is correct.. the Linksys software or the clients table?

The table on the router should be the authoritative source for that information. I've not used the utility you're talking about so I'm not familiar with it. You might check the Linksys site for more information oin the utility.

Having said the above, router tables aren't always up to date. Sometimes it take a while for client to disappear from the list after they disconnect. This might be why you're seeing an extra client in the utility as it may need to update its list. Just a thought.

I still see unknown and unwanted computers after blocking their MAC addresses and IPs in the clients table again. How is it that its not permanently banning or blocking them?

With DHCP you get a "lease" on an IP for a certain amount of time. This amount of time can be specified in the router settings and can vary from an hour to weeks/months/years/whatever you want.

There are one of two things happening here:

1) Computers were connected to your network at some point previously and their lease has not yet expired, thus they are still showing up in your client list
2) Computers currently are connected to your network, which they can still do if you have not changed your network authentication key, even though you have MAC address filtering enabled

Check your DHCP lease time to see if #1 is plausible. I think it's on the basic settings page. Also, if you're really worried, change your network authentication key, use WPA2, and use MAC filtering to only allow those listed (which it sounds like you're already doing).

So does that mean when their lease expires, they won't be able to log back in? Also what does it do exactly when I check their name and press delele from the table?

I've changed my WPA key a few times already but not sure how they are able to still log in.

If you are using MAC filtering and not allowing them access, and you have changed the network key, once you delete them from the clients table they will not be able to get an IP assigned by DHCP again.

Are you sure you're not seeing other networked devices in your home in the list, like a networked printer or something?

No, I dont have a printer or any other devices set up for wifi. I put all my family's computer on the allow list and also put the others on a block list and just changed to WPA2. I'm going to wait and see.

Funny thing happened just now. I dont see myself or any of the computers in my house in the clients list but we are still online.
