Linux on an Acer Aspire One AOA150, recomondations?

I was given an Acer Aspire One AOA150. It originally came with Windows XP. I have Windows 7 on it now but its a little on the slow side. The hardware isn't the fastest, Intel atom Processor and 1.5 GB of RAM. I have no use for it and will likely give it away. Right now it is using my TechNet keys for the OS so I need to redo it. The original COA sticker is unreadable so there is no putting XP back on, not easily anyway. XP is unsupported anyway. I was thinking Linux might be the way to go but I have absolutely no experience with that OS. Or maybe Android if its doable. I'm just looking for something that is easy to install via USB, as it doesn't have an optical drive. And the least amount of fiddling to get all the hardware working. If detailed specs are needed I'll post what I can find out. Thanks.

I put Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on a 7 year old Toshiba notebook that originally had Windows Vista. There was no drama at all and everything works fine as far as I can tell.

I don't have experience with any other Linux distros besides Ubuntu and Puppy so I can't recommend the "best" distro to use.

I installed Lubuntu. Everything seems to be working. The updater is running now. WIFI works which was my main concern. I'll have to play with it for a bit. The password nag screens when I try to do stuff is getting old though.

Lubuntu is not a bad choice but I prefer Mint Mate. After trying a dozen distros that was the closest I could come to Windows and it is a beautiful OS.

Have a look at the video below which was made from a version running from a stick. But when you natively install it, it's the same. The .iso you can download it from here. And if you want to set it up like it shows in the video, here are a few tutorials I made on that (disregard the last part about VMware Player).

Looks nice. I'm giving this away, or at least I'm going to try. If everything works and its not to hard to figure out how to do things, all is good. KISS

One issue I have is double tapping the touchpad isn't doing the double click to open things. I have to tap three times for it to work and even then it sometimes opens behind the current open window. I can't see any settings related to double click speed in the keyboard and mouse settings. Double clicking the touchpad button works just fine though.

I was going to put linux Mint 17 Cinnamon x32 on a spare SSD. Mate vs Cinnamon??? Also 32 bit vs 64 bit???
Maybe WHS has a view.

I tried Cinnamon but like Mate a lot better. It has more options to fine tune the system. I tried the 32bit only once and do not recall that being any different.

I traded the Netbook for an Android tablet. My brother in law wanted it for his daughter. He's happy and I'm happy. The netbook has Windows 7 on it now. The netbook was given to me, so it was a free be. That's why I was giving it away. Getting the Android tablet to play with is just a bonus. Thanks anyway guys for trying to help this Windows guy sort out Linux. I may be back again for similar help. I have a Raspberry Pi B+ coming in a couple of days. Another new toy to play with.

I'll probably just load NOOB on a flash drive for that though, and start there.
