live mail address book

I have the previous accounts files and have imported the messages but how do I import the address book. I can't use the import option in the program because I don't have a csv or current user address book and the previous account came from a dead computer so I couldn't make a csv file. Any help will be appreciated, I have a lot of addresses I'll lose if this can't be done. And shame on Microsoft for making this so difficult. Outlook Express rules!!

Welcome to Seven Forums Doctor Dan. Do you have the old Hard Drive, and can you access that with the new PC? If you can add the drive as a second internal drive, or via an external enclosure, you can still import the files

Thank you for your responses but as I stated in my original question; I have successfully transferred the emails it is the address book I am after. The message transfer did not transfer the address book and I have no idea how to do it. I do have the edb files so I just need to know what to do with them. I have tried just copying them into the new account but that just causes the contact section of the new account to go blank. I can move the Windows Live Contacts of course but that is not the address book. I can't believe this is so difficult to do.

This should be what you want then:

To anyone finding this in the future, THIS CAN BE DONE! Use this program - EseDbViewer - to export the file to a CSV file, and then you can import that where ever you want.

Note that you pretty much need the whole file structure containing the edb, not just the edb file.

It can do. Some accounts other than a Microsoft account can be used to sign-in to WLM. If yours doesn't, I suggest opening one, then when WLM is opened it will include your contacts addresses if they are added to it, using .csv format to export / import them.

I'm closing this topic because it's going nowhere. Other than A Guy everyone hasn't read my original post and learned that I don't have a .csv or any way to make one.
Microsoft sucks for making this problem; but I can't say I want to use something else; I'll just make a backup .csv every month or so.

I would see if esedbviewer would perhaps work in Safe Mode. I can ask others to look at this thread, we don't like to give up

Hi Doctor Dan , as A Guy said we don't give up that easily here on SF.
You can also try ESEDatabaseView - View/Open ESE Database Files (Jet Blue / .edb files) to recover the contact list.

I don't know if this could be of any use but it is worth a go.

Make a bootable Ubuntu disk Download Ubuntu | Ubuntu
Set the BIOS to boot from the optical when the machine boots it will show you a screen with TRY or INSTALL > select TRY
When it is finished - it takes very little time you will get a screen like in the pic .
Open the drive you want > User and dig down until you get to the WLM settings you may be able to copy / paste the material you want doing this.

I am not sure if it will but I have recovered tons of data etc using this method both on "dead" or just plain drives that you cannot get data from using Windows.

What version of WLM are you running?

On my system - WLM 2012 the contacts db is in DBStore under a system protected folder Default
%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts\Default\DBStore

close WLM
move everything in the DBStore folder to a new folder outside the WLM tree (ex: Downloads\WLM_Contacts\DBStore)
copy your "backup" clients.edb to %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts\Default\DBStore
:note:It would be better if you had the entire folder as A Guy noted, but see if WLM will rebuild the structure having only the clients.edb
Launch WLM

no joy?
close WLM
resart your system
launch WLM

Yes I know but it does get a bit tedious sometimes I wonder why I even bother as some of the stuff some want to do is just stark raving mad, or plain OCD.
