I am a novice with computers. I knew OutlookExpress ok but recently bought the windows7/Dell Inspiron.

My internet connection is a Cable/broadband. The provider is here in Japan where I live. I have my main account with them (gol.com). I also have two other accounts with aol.com.

In Outlook Express I had to change the "from" address whenever I replied to email to my gol.com account.

Now I can not do that. Also, I at one time had my address downloaded from my portable hard drive. I activted Windows Live and they are gone. I can not send/reply with the mail program now.

Here is the information that I receive:

Xaol-UAS-MB authentication failed.
IMAP server Imap.aol.com
default port socket error 10060

ID error IMAP 0x800CCCDF
Port 993.

So, how do I set up the accounts to dent and receive mail.

What numbers shoould I have in the AOL accounts (incomming and sending)? I wish that all emails be sent from my gol email address if possible.

ALSO, I did try to set up Thunderbird, but had similar problems.

Welcome,

This information should help you set up the AOL account. If you need additional information you go to your AOL account, online and get the POP, ports and SMTP information. According to the information that I am giving you it should be done automatically.
Setup AOL in Windows Live Mail (AOL Email Account Setup)

aol - what to change?

Thanks for the info.

I did receive email and still do on these accounts with aol. But I get the errors for sending.

I do not desire to delete the accounts and start anew.

My question is what changes do I need to make to the account "profile" ?
For the email address I assume that the account name is the email that I want to receive (aol.com). Is the sending account the email address that is my provider (gol.com)?
Do I need to contact my provider to see what ports should be used for non-"gol.com" accounts?

XAOL-UAS-MB autjenticatin failed. None of the authentication methods supported by your IMAP server are supported on this computer.

Protocol: IMAP
Port: 993

Thank you for your help,

Hi Don

The link that I sent you was not meant that you should start over. I was trying to show that the information should be set up automatically.

The error are not the POP3 setttings, they are in the SMPT (for sending). I will try to find on line the correct settings. Each company (AOL etc) has their own settings.

Check the link that I sent you make sure that the information that is shown there agrees with yours. We need only SMPT information. It is probably the port number.

In SMPT port, try 587 and see if it works. If not, we have to get the SMPT port from your ISP and set it up as though it looks like it was sent from AOL
