A few issues going on here, and it these originated on the MS clients for Messenger first of all before appearing to effect trillian as well (using 5.1).

Issue started off in messenger 2009 where message not received errors would occur between myself and other users and vice versa, which then led onto me showing as offline to other people, even when I was set to online (so they got a surprise I messaged them when it did get through).
So I removed that and tried this on the 2011 client, same issues appeared there.

I tried following some forum fix of removing contacts folders and so forth that related to 2009 version, which didnt resolve the issue, and then attempting setting my privicy from medium to low and back to medium again, which seemed to resolve for a short time.

The problem returns again so I move over to Trillian which settles the problem within 1 day and had been great for over 3 weeks now, until this week where the same issues have appeared.
Double checked in the other client and it is doing the same.

I've even tried an old laptop that never suffered any problems and tied it to my mobile internet to rule out any router issues, and it suffered the problem also.

I really am at a wits end over this one, just have no idea what to do anymore.

Suggestions, theories, anything would be welcome.

Oh, in case it helps, am running Win7 home Premium on the desktop and Win XP Home on the netbook (which showed the same issues with messenger 2009)

This could be caused by a virus/malware so let's try a full scan with Malwarebytes

Had a go with Malwarebytes a couple of nights ago, came up with nothing found infecting the system.
Incidently while in work tonight I decided to let the mobile connect via its client (using uk tmobile 3g) and it was having the exact same issues.
So I am starting to think the issue is at Messengers server end, now are they contactable I wonder?
I am going to try and see if they are.
