Live TV Problem

So .. I had this working originally.

I have an MSI TV@anywhere PSI tuner card. I have had it for about a year now and originally everything was working fine. I could watch TV with the included MSI Software, and I could watch TV on my Windows Media Center...

For the record, I am on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

I recently had to run a Repair Install on Windows to correct a problem that I had, that was caused by my initial negligence of being suckered into purchasing an bad copy of Windows with a bad key. After correcting said negligence and acquiring a legit copy; I noticed that my system was having some various errors and problems that the bad copy had caused, so I ran the following Repair Install off my new retail DVD...

So far, everything was working perfectly smooth now... Only problem I had was that I had to reinstall GTA4.. big deal.

Then I found that my TV had quit working, so I uninstalled all of its software, drivers, etc... and started over reinstalling that from scratch.

The MSI Software, is now working just fine. I can load up my Live TV and watch TV just fine.

Windows Media Center however, will not work again, and I can not remember how I got it working in the first place!

I am running Comcast, from my wall, to a Digitial Set Top Box. From that box, into the TV Card, which is set to Channel 3; and I change channels using the Comcast Box's included remote.

When I go through the WMC Set Up for Live TV; when I get to the screen where it asks me to let WMC detect my TV signals, it can't detect them. Then it asks me if I want it to try again, or if I want to set this part up manually...

I select Manaully...

Now it gives me three choices...

Cable
Satellite
Antenna


If I select Cable, it then tells me that I have to have a Set Top Box, and a WMC Compatible Remote Control. It goes and detects the TV signal on Channel 3 and puts up TV Video in the little preview box and I can hear the audio from it and click on the "ok" button to confirm and then it comes up and says it can not detect any Remote.

I don't have a Remote for this!

All I have is the Comcast Remote and its not a WMC Remote.

So I click "Back" a couple times and try selecting Antenna as I think that was how it was set up originally when it was working. It goes to the screen where its attempting to detect TV Signals with the little blue rotating circle..

And thats where I am now...

...and thats where I've been, for the past 30 minutes!

Its, just.. stuck there. It won't detect anything and I have to use Task Manager to shut down MCE; which I know because I have been through this an hour ago, had to use Task Manager to shut down MCE and rebooted my machine and now I'm on my second attempt...

I don't understand, why it detects and successfully Previews the Signal when I select "Cable"... but it does not when I select Antenna; and furthermore if it is working when I select Cable, why won't it let me skip the dumb WMC Remote detection since I don't have one of those and never had one when it was working previously?

Only this time, when I select Antenna; as stated, it just sits there, and I can not continue...

Sounds like the MSI software is conflicting with WMC. Uninstall the MSI software. Bad Idea to have two TV Programs Installed!!

As long as you don't try to run the TV programs at the same time, it shouldn't matter. I have WinTV7 and WMC both configured for my Hauppage 2250. Both work just not at the same time. I loaded WinTV because WMC won't record from the FM radio tuner. WMC disables the record button on FM for some reason.

I use an IR blaster but I think you can setup your tuner input as antenna and do a manual entry of channel 3. I recall seeing something like that during WMC setup.

I am TRYING.. to setup with the Antenna.

But WMC just sits there and doesn't do anything when I ask it to configure that way.

The MSI software is already configured that way, as its the only way it will pick up the signal from my Set Top Box, and its working fine now.

I want my WMC to pick up the signal again, like it used to for the past year and I want to know why its not?

I found these instructions from Windows Media Center Setup.

I think it's at step 6 where you can select that you want to enter channels manually or you specify your Comcast provider and let it scan for channel 3. I can't remember exactly though. I do know that if I go through the setup again to look, WMC will wipe out all my settings. I don't particularly want to go through that again. :huh:

The steps don't say anything about needing a remote or IR blaster like the Satellite connection does.

If your TV signal comes from a cable TV jack in the wall or an over-the-air antenna, follow these steps to set it up in Media Center:

1. Connect your TV signal cable to the TV-IN jack on a compatible TV tuner on your Media Center PC.
   If your PC has more than one tuner, you can use a cable splitter to divide the TV signal, and then connect it to each tuner. This will enable you to record multiple programs simultaneously, or to watch a live program while recording another program. To receive a TV signal using multiple tuners, each tuner must have a TV signal connected to it, and the signal must be the same for each tuner.
2. On the Windows Media Center start screen, scroll to Tasks, click Settings, click TV, and then click Set Up TV Signal.
3. If you see a message saying that changing the settings will affect TV recording, it means you already have a signal set up. To go through the set up process again, click Yes.
4. Follow the steps to set up your TV signal. These steps will vary depending on the type of tuner or tuners that you have, as well as the type of programming to which you subscribe.
5. On the TV Signal Detection Result screen, if you see your tuner or tuners listed as expected, click Yes, configure TV with these results, and then click Next.
   If a TV tuner is not showing up on this screen, make sure that it's connected properly to your computer, and that you have the appropriate drivers installed. For more information, see Update a driver for hardware that isn't working properly.
6. On the TV Signal Provider screen, scroll through the list and click the signal provider that most closely matches your location and service, and then click Next.
7. Click Finish.

No it doesn't.

I stated that it gets to the point where its "scanning" for the Signal, but then it just sits there, doesnt do anything else; that I had tried twice and both times let it sit there for 30 minutes each time watching the little blue spinning circle thingy; and then I have to use Task Manager to close the application...

Thats the problem I'm at now.

It won't detect any signal when I ask it to scan as Antenna.

But when I ask it to scan as Cable, then it does, but I can't continue without a remote that I don't have.

I had it working before, as Antenna.

Why won't it work now?
