Hi folks - wonder if anyone can help - I set up an IMAP account using windows 7 livemail. Emails sending and receiving OK, but SENT are diverted to SENT folder in my desktop storage folder for some reason. I have ticked the "save to server" option and included sent, drafts, etc but this is the situation.

That's one of my email addresses; I have others also as pop3 accounts on my desktop that are working OK, the problem is with the .com IMAP account that I added to the list - [email protected]

Ask if the @Company dot Com address can be accessed using POP or check the servers names are input correctly including port numbers.

Hi Roderunner - The reason I went IMAP not POP was so that I could go to other computers to access the files; when setting up I took care to use the correct ports and names - hence it is sending and receiving OK - the only question is why SENT is being stored in "storage folder - SENT" rather than SENT in the IMAP folder!

I have several IMAP accounts and POP3 accounts set up. The POP3 accounts come with a default set of subfolders (Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Junk, Deleted) which can be used for storage. However IMAP accounts are intended to let you view whatever is on your email provider's server. So if there is something on the server called "Sent" you can see what is on it via WLM. (All that WLM knows is that its a server storage location having a four character label (s-e-n-t) which it does not understand. OTOH, if you are viewing the server on your browser instead of WLM, and you send an email using your webmail service, your webmail server most likely puts the stuff you sent directly using its webmail service in the sent folder it created for that purpose. Similarly, when you send something from the client program, WLM, you are sending it from an account set up on the program. If it's a pop3 account its placed in the pop3 account's sent folder. If it's an IMAP account it's placed in the sent storage folder which WLM has setup as the place to save the items you created and sent via IMAP, regardless of whatever folders appear on the server.
