LiveMail opens the MSN site not the program!

Hi!

I have decided to use MSN Messenger and LiveMail on my Windows 7 laptop. I signed up for a LiveMail email address and this works fine on MSN Messenger. If I click the envelope icon on the top right of the MSN Messenger screen, it causes the MSN web site to open and not the LiveMail program on the computer.

I also have a laptop running XP and have MSN and Livemail working perfectly.

On the Windows 7 laptop I have tried reinstalling, but it says everything is already installed. If I pick LiveMail from the START Menu it takes me to the web site, it doesn't start up the LiveMail program.

Any ideas how to fix it? When I click on LiveMail, I want the program to start, not for the computer to open a web browser and direct me to the MSN/LiveMail web site.

Puzzled so far!

Hi v105 welcome to the forum, have you set up WLM with your hotmail address, downloaded the folders and set it as your default mail client? this can take a while, and you will probably need to open WLM again to get it to set as default (i dont know why... thats how it works for me)

no problem, just to clarify that last post, (i just reread it and it seemed a bit vague to me)
what should happen once you run WLM for the first time, is that it will ask to download the folders, when you close WLM a window will come up saying "downloading messages" this can take a while depending on how many messages you have in your inbox, when its done, the window will automatically close, then reopen WLM and it will ask to be set as your default mail client,

Hi Martin,

I can't even get the LiveMail program to start now. When I select it from the start button and programs, it opens up Internet Explorer and goes to the MSN site.

It's almost as if the computer has forgotten it has LiveMail installed and has put the web site link everywhere instead. Any idea where the LiveMail program lives on the computer? It is in the C drive somewhere under Windows 7 directories?
I was hoping if I create a shortcut straight to the actual EXE file it might start up.

So annoyed with it. It's great on my XP computer and seems to work better than my old Outlook Express for mail and newsgroups.
I'm not an expert with 7 just yet.

well on my computer, it lives at C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe if you use 32 bit windows, just drop the (X86)
