Local Transfers between 2 machines problem

Hi folks..

I'm using 2 PCs to transfer locally files (using FlashFXP). Both PCs "talk" to each other through my aDSL router. While i was transferring files only from my secondary machine to this one, my speed was about 5-6 MB/s.... OK.. I thought my router has a 54mbit limit.. However, a week ago I transferred a large folder from this machine to the secondary.. Speed was the standard 100 Mbit/s. Secondary machine has 10/100 LAN, this one is 10/100/1000.

Both machines are running Win7. It was fine on Win XP though. Any suggestions?
I'm really feeling stupid asking such questions but I tried everything and I just can't figure it out. Perhaps someone has experienced this before?!

Small edit: Secondary machine is 32bit, this is 64.

The worse thing they could have done is used wireless. Great concept but I have seen lots and lots of problems with it. Especially with all the wireless recievers and transmitters.

Umm May i ask why your using flashFxp and not just the regular exploer that is built in windows.

You know what they say... the less complated you make things, the easier it is. wait.. that just makes sense, but you knwo what i mean....

stick with what windows was built with and stay away from as many third party programs as you can is what i mean

Actually explorer sharing is way WAY more complicated than just CONNECT and have all the power over all hard drives of another computer. I do use explorer for streaming but thats it. It won't allow delete, rename, etc... unless i do a bunch of settings and read half of the Win7 topics on the web.
And no, there is no wifi in the matter (completely disabled). It's all Ethernet.

PS...FlashFXP is awesome. It's CLEARLY a Win 7 issue. The 32bit one.

I can tell you right off hand. Windows 7... reguardless of 32 or 64 bit is alot more secured than windows xp. there are alot more settings you have to work with. reguardless if you are working with third party or not. The first thing you have to do is make sure the computers are talking to each other with the software they have now...once that is completely, then the third party will come into play... easy as pie.

Everything is fine with both PCs... they use identical software... the only difference is in hardware (excluding the 32/64bit one) ... I just now tried direct connection - no router involved. Same result.

I do like Win 7 a lot more than XP... gee, it's the best OS I've ever had, yet there is this tiny issue i cannot resolve. Frankly it's not THAT important but yet it is worth investigating.

its your settings are not set together between both machines.... the hardware is fine.


reguardless of how fast it is... the main thing i was looking for is a connection between the two, to see if both computers can see one another in the network neighborhood.

do you at least see that?

the real difference between 32 bit an 64 bit is the calculations. Also one can use more ram than the other.

If you dont have each of the settings on each of the computers at least remotely similiar to one another... they will not see one another. Especially when it comes tot he IP, Subnet, and gateway.

I suggest that we make your computers have a static IP address....that will help out alot.
Make sure that all your drivers are up to date. Then under your "Home Network" settings, under the advance settings, make sure that all your settings are similar to one another.

I'm sorry, I probably didnt make myself clear.. There is nothing wrong with my settings. I've been in the networking business for over 20 years, but with win 7 this issue appears. I know how to set LAN ips and gateways.. if there was a faulty setting, i would not be able to connect... the fact that i use identical settings to both machines and just one produce fine results should tell you that. So i still assume it is Win 7 issue. I tested a 2 more machines - laptops... here and on the secondary machine... same results. Laptops are using win xp and vista. When i connect those two to my main machine, everything is fine..

All my drivers are up to date... I have 2 LAN cards on both machines, so i tried all variations, the secondary always come short with 50 mbits.

Up to date or not the drivers are the real culprit. Win 7 isn't at fault directly unless you want to blame a driver problem on Win 7. I would try to find a newer driver for the secondary machine or maybe an old Vista driver might be better, it's hard to say for sure which one will work best but changing drivers should have an effect. This type of problem has come up many times in the past.

On the Win7 machine goto -> Control Panel-> Programs and Features. On the left click "Turn Windows Features on or off". When the list loads UNCHECK (remove the tick) from "Remote Diffential Compression" - This fixes a lot of imcompatabilities for a lot of networking problems especially with mixed XP/win7 machines
