location of xhci in wim file

I have a GA-Z170 mobo on which I installed W7Pro x64 a couple of years ago. In device manager I see it has the xhci drivers, and I also see that I have the mb_utility_windowsimagetool so I am pretty sure I used it. To verify I looked at my installation flash drive, but I don't see those drivers. I assume they would be inside install.wim. If so what folder?


Is there any issue using install media that has been modified for xhci on older systems that only support ehci? The older ehci drivers are not removed/disabled by the image tool or the newer drivers are they?

Shouldn't be a problem, windows should install the correct drivers during setup.

You will find the drivers in windows\system32\driverstore\filerepository.

It is possible to export or delete ( i.e. uninstall ) them from a mounted wim image using
View attachment Dism++.zip

I don't think you need to.

It turns out I did use the image tool to add xhci, but I mistakenly used index 1 (home basic) instead of index 3 (7pro) which is what I have. I must have d/l and installed those xhci drivers later.
