Solved Lock screen doesn't show password box

Hi,

I've recently been testing out some face login programs, and although I have now uninstalled them all, it seems that my lock screen setup has been affected.

Whenever I *previously* used to lock my screen (using either Windows Key-L or after being woken from sleep or hibernation), it would show my user account tile with my user name, and under that was the password box (as in the picture below)

But now, when I lock my screen using Windows-L or when it locks automatically after being woken from sleep or hibernation, it just shows a smaller tile with my user name under it (as in the picture below), and the switch user button under it, but nowhere to enter a password.

I have to click on the tile and then that takes me to the first screen shown above where I am able to then enter the password. I know it seems a little picky but I did prefer the setup I had previously.

I've already tried changing the following settings in Local Security Policy without success:

  • Display user information when the session is locked
  • Do not display last user name

Does anyone know what I can do so that the lock screen with the password box is shown immediately (first pic above) when the computer is locked?

thanks in advance!

Well, its seems to have fixed itself after I did a reboot... Also had to do a couple of system restores because some of my startup icons weren't appearing in the system tray...

Also got a notification that my system was probably not genuine notification, but I hope there aren't going to be any issues there, because it is genuine!

Just do the MS robocall for validation. You'll be OK. :)

Same problem

I have exactly the same problem as in the original post.

OS is Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. It was working ok before but now after screen-lock, I press CTRL+ALT+DEL to get to the welcome/login screen, but only my user icon is shown and I have to click it to get the password box.

This is very annoying, how can I get it back to immediately showing the password box?

Thanks.

adamh128 - Did you find a solution for this? I'm having this problem right now. Thanks.

I, too, am having this problem, and everything I've tried doesn't work. I changed the Local Security policy just as the OP did. Didn't work. I can't figure it out and it is driving me bonkers not to have the password box displayed at the login and lock screens. Please help!

After searching and searching and searching, this seems to have done the trick for me:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System]
"DontDisplayLockedUserId"=dword:00000000
