This HP win 7 i7 locks up and ctr alt del has no affect, have to power off. Did an sfc scannow and it found no errors. If I do a repair function with this fairly new HP, will I retain most of my data ? They sent me 2 discs but I bought the pro anytime upgrade and the discs are not for pro.
Machine runs great mostly but as I said in another thread the restore to an earlier date always fails and I don't know why.
Back to ctr alt del....why would this not work?
Thanks.

I have heard of viruses and malware affecting control/alt/delete.

When did you last do a thorough scan for viruses/malware?

I think the repair function is supposed to leave data intact, but you'd be a fool to run a repair without a backup anyway.

I have been scanning with a couple different anti virus' and they show clean but that doesn't guarentee anything...
I did back up my data 2 nights ago so I'll give the repair a try....thanks !

This is an HP machine and no way to repair the application. Discs wont do a repair, just a re-load. HP tech made me feel like a bad customer because I was tired of hard drive failures and installed an SSD and cloned it...which by the way ran perfect for months. I see HP put the operating system on F drive but no way to access it even tapping F11 which is supposed to start the repair process, it asks for the discs which are useless and I need a store bought win 7 copy. Crap.
The good news is that I was able to restore to a previous date by doing it in safe mode, it fails in normal mode and it seems ok now but time will tell.
Thanks.
