There is a small lock next to one of my folders. I have searched high and low (and left and right) and I can not find any info. about it. I went through the list of folder options but no mention of it. Does anyone know about it? How did it get there and how can I get rid of it?

The Lock shows up if the actual user has no rights/only limited rights to the folder in question.
What's that folder we're talking about ?

Isn't there an easier way?
I suppose you could always do a simple system restore to a point before the 'locks' started showing up.
Please let us know the outcome.
Thanks

Yes, that would work, but I've done lots of other things since the problem.

Here's my solution.
1-Made a new folder on my destop.
2-Dragged everything from the locked folder to the new one.
3-Deleted the locked folder.
4-Re-named the new folder with the deleted folder's name.

Of course it doesn't address the issue as to why it happened, but glad to know you got it sorted out.
Thanks for posting your solution. :)

I have got the lock symbol after I have stopped sharing the folder. Right click on the folder with the lock, go to properties, select securities tab, click on edit (change permissions), click on add, in the blank box type the letter a, click on check names, authenticated users will appear, select it, then OK. OK's to the end.
Your lock will now be gone. Simple solution.

I found an easier solution. Make a new folder, drag everything from the locked folder to the new one. Delete the locked one.

But he did give the reason as to why it happened... the folder went from shared to unshared.
