locking a file from yourself

Here's one for you.

I work at home and often find myself distracted by going to my favorite websites. To avoid this problem I've been using the hosts technique to block particular websites. It worked for a while but I still find myself going to the hosts file and unblocking myself.

Does anyone know of anyway I can lock the file making it impossible to edit, but still allowing the system to use it properly? Permissions do not work, because I am the administrator and can pretty much do whatever I want; even if I delete all permissions besides the system.

Hmmm, have someone demote your account to standard and change the password, otherwise show restraint.

When the public beta of the new versions of Outpost products are released in a few weeks, they will have a function to protect any files that you select from being viewed or changed by an "unauthorized" person. Whether this will effect the system's ability to use the file, I'm not yet clear on.

Thanks for the reply's. I guess the best way is to log into a separate user-name when I'm "at work". Would a folder password program such as folder lock do the trick as well? Or does that also block the system from using the file?

folder password when used will ask a password when you try to open the folder. I would suggest use a separate profile.
