log-off leads to a near shut-down

There's nothing unusual about my WIN7 - though it has a lot of mods - and I find it a big advance on XP. AVIRA, Malwarebyres, Mbam all tell me no malware. If I log off, the screen goes black, the indicator light on the computer stays on and I must use the re-set button to continue. I'd appreciate any advice - though logging off isn't essential as no-one else uses the computer.

What kind of mods?

What all do you have customized?

That could be the problem.

I really couldn't remember them all, but I rather think that the only one that I'd done when this problem first showed itself was to remove the Libraries sub-folders. The edition is the Ultimate by the way.
